A Smile

He walks by

Stops by my side

I hardly glance up

I'm writing my world

Through poems, through words

He stops and reads over my work

A sly smile appears

I catch my slow breath

"This is really good,

You perfectly captured death."

I nodded, "Thanks."

Our eyes met

My heart sped up

I'll never forget

The smile

The eyes

For once there is no hidden lies

I know that just for a moment

Just for awhile

Everything was perfect

When I saw that smile
