All my life, I kept wishing I was like them, the Hunters. They're an organization the hunts down people like me, the hunted. I learned that being like those creeps was the thing I wanted to do the least. The story started when I turned 8, along with my brother twin brother, Rob, the time when we had to start running.
I woke up, rubbing my tired eyes. Rob had already been out and about, he always woke up when it was our Birthday. I always woke up when the sun was up, I was unable to sleep in, because of the painful brightness of the sun. I stumbled out of bed, stubbing my toe on my dresser, while wincing in pain, I carefully walked through my bedroom door, making sure I didn't bump into anything else.
After waking down the stairs, I saw Rob playing video games, as usual. Dad noticed me, then proceeded to rummage around in the cabinet for something. Mom was talking on the phone, with a concerned look upon her face. She got off of the phone, and started talking to Dad. Even Rob was wondering what was going on. Mom and Dad walked over to us.
"Evan, Rob." Mom said calmly, but we could see the panic in her eyes, we knew something was wrong. "I need you to hide in the hall closet, and don't leave until they leave." Rob didn't know what she meant, but I did. It meant that the Hunters were after us.
"Evan, take this." Dad said, handing me his prized possession, his knife.
"Rob, you can have this." Mom said, handing Rob her chain bracelet. Rob and I ran into the hall closet, we closed it right as the sound of the door being kicked down started. Tears started to run down Rob's face as the gunshots began, he had no clue what was going on, or why. I, on the other hand, knew this would happen eventually. I told Rob to stay calm, and take deep breaths. We heard bodies drop down.
We hid for a few minutes, a man walked past the closet as I peeked out, it had been the first time I had seen a Hunter up close before. My heart was racing, if the man found us, Rob and I would end up exactly like Mom and Dad. Dead.
After a few minutes, the man left, and I decided that it was safe for Rob and I to leave.
"Rob, we have to leave here." I said, we walked into the living room, the first thing both of us saw was our parents floating in a pool of blood, it appeared that the Hunter shot them both in two places, the heart, and the head.
"What about Mom and Dad?!" Rob exclaimed, I looked at him.
"They are dead, and the Hunters now know where we are, we can't stay here, we have to leave." I said, Rob couldn't take his eyes off of the corpses of Mom and Dad. I tried to pull Rob out the door, but he wouldn't budge. "Rob. We can't do anything to help them. They are dead, and dead means gone." I forced Rob out of the door, tears filling in his eyes, he tried to claw his way back in, but I eventually got him out.
"But, Evan, where will we go?" Rob asked after he had calmed down. "We don't have anywhere or anyone to go to."
"Maybe an abandoned building, like that old pizza place that closed down." I suggested. "But I wouldn't eat anything there unless it was absolutely necessary. We should gather as much food as we can grab from the kitchen, and then we should head over there." Rob nodded, and we bagged up tons of food, and carried about 10 bags of food each over to the pizza place about a mile away.
We placed the bags on to the concrete floor of the pizza place, stretching our aching arms, we immediately slid our backs down the wall, tired from all of the walking we had done. We were extremely exhausted, and before we knew it, we had fallen asleep.
