Rhodes' Sister

Chapter 12: Are you okay?

It was the day of Camille's court appearance and even though she looked calm and collected on the outside she was really freaking out. She had decided to head over to the hospital before she was set to go to court, she thought maybe being at work and not alone would help her a bit or maybe not.

"Hey. Shouldn't you be at the court?" Ethan asked the young doctor.

Camille smiled softly. "I'm not on the stand until 12."

She was looking over Thomas' notes, the sudden pain in her leg reminded her of the day she had been attacked. Her blood stained some of the pages, Ethan must have realized what she was staring at because he rested a hand on the Rhodes' shoulder.

"You're gonna do great kid." He reassured. Sensing that she hadn't probably believed him he continued. "You've got so many people behind you Rhodes. You've got a great brother and I hear that you've got a certain someone looking out for you."

"Yeah. Yeah I have." Camille's smile was sincere this time. "I better head off now."

Ethan gave Camille one last hug. "You're gonna be fine."

Camille began to walk away but she turned back before walking towards the exit. "And Ethan. Thank you."

She headed out to the parking lot where Connor should be waiting for her. He had dropped her off since her leg was still not free from it's splint and now he was going to take her to the court. He knew his little sister was really worried about today and had promised to be there for her every step of the way.

She met her brother out in the parking lot an unbeknownst to her he had not been alone, he had been accompanied by Kelly Severide. Camille wasn't exactly sure what was going on between her and the firefighter, he had been over hers a few times and they're relationship was a casual fling of some kind. Camille wanted more and even though Kelly was there for her now she really didn't think he'd want the same.

"Hey..." Camille spoke softly as her brother engulfed her in a hug. "You ready?"

Camille nodded, smiling at her brother. One look made Connor understand his sisters need to be left alone with Kelly for a second.

"Are you okay?" Kelly asked the young doctor. 

She was dressed in a dark grey trouser suit. Her top was white and she wore her necklace, the one she wore the day she had been attacked. She looked beautiful but it felt wrong to compliment the woman that stood before him. Not because of anything other than the fact that she was about to testify.

Camille took a sharp intake of breath and nodded. "I guess." Her voice was fragile. "Thank you for coming."

"I told you, I'm not leaving." Kelly smiled sincerely. "I think we better get going."

"Yeah." Camille nodded. "Let's get this over with."

The smell of the court room made Cammie's stomach turn. Kelly had come along with Camille despite her protests, he had promised to be by her side no matter what. Kelly had been on her left whilst Connor had been on her right. Connor had felt his sister trembling and reached for her hand  which he clasped it strongly. 

The guard gestured for Camille to move to the stand, she was shaking, her heart racing and her head pounding. Camille went to stand but she seemed to stumble back, Connor was quick to steady his sister. Kelly had reached for her too.

He looked at her with concerned eyes. "Are you okay?"

Camille nodded and Connor gave his sister's hand one last squeeze before she gingerly made her way to the stand mindful of her leg that was still slowly recovering.
