Chapter Three

E L O D I E

'Hey guys, have any of you seen Kaia? She usually messages me to ask if I'm at school but she didn't and she's not replying to my texts.' I put my bag down on the table Katherine and Jordan were sat at.

'No? I just thought she was off sick.' Jordan shrugged, texting on her phone.

'Me too. She's never off though, so it's a bit weird.' Kat looked up and smiled.

'That's what I was thinking.' I sighed and leaned back in the chair I was sat in.

'Hey besties.' A familiar voice spoke from behind me. Calum.

Spinning around, sure enough I was faced with Calum, Michael and Ashton; however, there was no Luke.

'What do you want?' Jordan rolled her eyes at Michael.

'Have you seen Luke?'

The Night Before

K A I A

It was already getting dark due to it being winter, meaning when I was halfway home it was basically pitch black outside and I had no way of defending myself from any murderers or rapists. If I knew I was going to be on my way home so late I would have at least taken some fuckboy repellent with me. What? There was a lot of horny teenagers wandering the streets in darkness that I needed to be aware of.

I was about to call my dad and ask him to come pick me up when suddenly someone grabbed me and pulled me down an alleyway, pushing their hand against my mouth.

'Don't say anything.' A voice spoke quietly into my ear. A bunch of buff guys with baseball bats walked past and once they had turned the corner, the hand was taken off my mouth.

'Luke?' I exclaimed once I spun around to face the person. He had his hood over his head; however, I could still make out his facial features through the darkness.

'Kaia?' He looked quite scared, as if those guys were going to do something to him, and me. 'What are you doing out here? It's dark.'

'Oh I'm sorry, am I not allowed to come out when it's dark? I was walking home from my friend Alfie's.'

'He should've been a gentleman and walked you home, it's dangerous.' Luke leant against the wall and pulled a pack of cigarettes and a lighter out of his pocket.

'Well if you don't mind, I'm going to walk myself home now.' I smiled awkwardly before beginning to back out of the alleyway.

'I'll walk you to your house.' He pushed himself off the wall and started walking towards me.

'No, no. That's not necessary, I'm sure it'll be fine.'

'Did I say you had a choice?' Raising a dark eyebrow, he waited for me to lead the way to my street.

After a few minutes of walking in silence, I wondered whether I should ask him about the guys who walked past the alleyway. Were they trying to hurt him? If so, why? Would they have hurt me?

'Who were those guys?' I wanted to slap myself as soon as the words left my mouth.

'People.' Luke replied bluntly.

'Well yeah, I gathered that. Why were you hiding down an alley from them?'

'They were drunk and I didn't want an innocent girl to get raped or killed, let's drop it now.' I didn't believe him, but I did what he asked and just let it go for the time being.

'This isn't the way to my house, Luke.' I looked over at him as he threw the cigarette on the floor and stood on it.

'I know, you're coming to mine. It's safer there.'

'Luke, I hardly know you? Also, why wouldn't I be safe?'

'Just leave it and come with me, I'll explain another time.' He said before grabbing my hand and dragging me down the street towards a large house.
