I quickly led Parrot back to my car and put him in the back seat, frowning. He seemed happy as a clam and was absolutely covered in mud. It seemed that I would be cleaning the backseat of my car after this. I wondered how he had gotten out, as our backyard was completely fenced in. Plus, Parrot wasn't one to run away.

I drove through the neighborhood to our house, and almost had a heart attack when I pulled into our driveway. Our front door was wide open, and our screen door was shredded. I took my keys out of the ignition and got out of the car, grabbing the aluminum bat I kept on the floorboard. It couldn't hurt to go do a quick search of the house before I called the police. The intruder had probably already left when he heard my car pull in.

I left Parrot in the car, just in case.

The last thing I needed was for my baby to get hurt.

"Hello?" I said, creeping in the door. It gave a loud squeak as I opened it, making me jump in fright. The whole thing was basically hanging off its hinges, meaning someone had done some serious damage

I quietly tiptoed into the living room, swinging the bat as I came through the doorway. Huh. Nobody was in there, and nothing had been touched. The TV was still above the fireplace and our soundbar was still mounted on the wall. I frowned in confusion.

I continued around the whole house like this, swinging the bat every time I came around a corner. But nobody was there. Everything was still in its place, and I couldn't see any signs of anybody ever being there. The last room I came to was my own. My jaw dropped at the sight of it.

My entire room had been trashed.

The police arrived about fifteen minutes later. I was still in shock at the sight of my room but went downstairs to greet them. Fortunately enough, they had brought a K9 unit with an adorable puppy, which certainly raised my spirits. I gave him a good pat on the head while the officer began to ask questions. The other two that came with him began to search the house, and one of them sadly took the dog with her. I waved bye to my new friend.

"Ma'am, did you notice anything taken from the house? Anything of value?"

I bit my lip and turned away while blushing

"Well..." I trailed off, trying to overcome my embarrassment, "I don't know if I just can't find it, but some of my underwear and bars seem to be missing. Also, one of my blankets is gone."

The officer nodded in understanding, not saying a word about the intimacy of the things that were stolen.

"Is that all?"

"Yes," I replied. I pointed to the stairs. "My room is the first one of the left, the one that has been destroyed."

I led him up the stairs to my room, which looked the same as it had before. All of my clothes had been dragged out of my armoire and were scattered across the room. My mattress had been literally thrown off of my bed frame and was leaning against the wall. All of my blankets and pillow were strewn across the door. Every photo or poster on my wall had been taken down. My window was wide open, and the curtains had been ripped off.

"Unfortunately ma'am, this seems to be a stalker type situation. There are multiple paths to take here..."

My heart began to beat unsteadily as he talked. My hands started to shake, the world falling out from behind me. White noise pounded in my ears as my vision turned gray.

No, he can't be back already. He's not here again, it was just an intruder. He's not back he's not back he's not back he's not back he's not back

I began to hyperventilate as the officer gave me a worried look.

"Are you ok ma'am?" He asked, but was interrupted by a familiar booming voice.

"WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?"

I heard footsteps pound up the stairs. My dad came rushing into my room looking as if he was about to murder someone. He came over and enveloped my trembling body into a bear hug, smoothing my hair with his hand. His calming scent enveloped me, but that didn't stop the panic from coming. My shoulders began to shake as I silently sobbed into his shoulder, muttering, "He's back he's back he's back.."

"No honey, no he's not. It's all ok, you're gonna be ok, let's get you out of here," he whispered in my ear as he picked me up like a child and carried me down to the living room. He placed me on the couch before he went back upstairs. I started to calm down. I hugged a pillow to my chest and began to take deep breaths, which helped my breathing calm and the tears to stop running down my face. I heard my dad angrily whispering with the officer upstairs before they both came back down, the cop tipping his head to me.

"I'm so sorry about the stress I caused you, ma'am. We will be looking into this case. In the meantime, make sure you keep all of your doors and windows locked at all times. You may also want to consider purchasing a home security system. Call us if you see signs of an intruder again"

The lady that had taken the dog with her came back into the room and shook her head at the other officer.

"Spark didn't pick up any unusual scents; it's as if the person who broke in here was a ghost."

My dad frowned at this.

I leaned down and gave Spark another pet, and he gave me a small lick on the face in return. The three officers left after talking a bit more to my dad. He locked the door behind them and sat down next to me on the couch.

"Hey, I'm going to go grab Parrot out of the backyard, and then we can talk about this, yeah?"

I nodded as my dad went to go get my baby. Parrot came bursting into the room, his little butt waggling with excitement. I gave him a scratch behind the ears as he began sniffing my jeans.

"I know buddy, I cheated on you with another dog. I'm sorry, and I promise you're my favorite pup."

Parrot lept onto the couch and settled himself into his usual position on my lap. My dad sat down again and leaned over to pet him too.

"So I think it's best if we just forget about today, yeah? I'll clean up your room, and we can replace everything that was broken. I'll be up first thing tomorrow to install new locks and a new system around the house so nothing like this ever happens again. We can forget all of this ever happened, and move on. It's not good to dwell on bad things in the past, agreed?"

I nodded in agreement and gave him a watery smile.

"But Dad, I'm scared. What if it's him again? And how did someone get in here if it's not him? Who else knows our house well enough to get in without detection? And what if..what if..." I began to hyperventilate against as my dad leaned over to wrap me in another hug.

"I know honey, I know. You're safe now, he can't touch you again. Don't ever forget that."

I pulled away and gave Parrot a good reassuring squeeze.

"Love you, dad."

"Love you too honey. Your mom will be home soon, so why don't we go take Parrot for a walk together?"

I nodded and went to go grab my phone, only to see sixteen missed calls from Jackson.

"Aw, crap."
