Chapter 6
Torao woke up groggy with Hanami practically imitating a starfish on the bed. He elbowed her limbs off of himself and then got up, stretching. He snatched a mug and poured himself a cup of coffee out of the automatic coffee maker. Hanami snorted and stretched her arms in the air.
“Well good morning Mr. ImgoingtodrinkcoffeebecauseIforgotwhat-happenedlastnightandImkindascared.” She leaped out of bed and nabbed her own cup of coffee.
Torao gave her a rank look but put his cup of coffee down. “I do remember what happened last night.” Hanami raised a questioning eyebrow. “You patched me up, I couldn’t help myself so I banged my head on a tree to get my thinking straight, we made out, best part, and then we went to sleep together.” Hanami gestured for him to go on. “Nothing happened I just cuddled you because you were cold; I know because you screamed, “I’M COLD,” in your sleep.” Hanami blushed and nestled into Torao’s arm while he picked up his coffee once more. She sighed, love-struck.
“I can’t believe you stood up against Dusk.” Torao shrugged. “He had a flamethrower... A FLAMETHROWER.” Torao shrugged once again.
“He was a douche.” Hanami giggled and clung onto Torao tighter. “And your life was on the line. You did nothing wrong. Just some much deserved justice.”
“Well, thank god you did save me or else I would be lying dead on that field with Hoshimi.” Hanami hugged Torao’s arm and stole his coffee. She took a sip but soon spit it out, leaving a spray of black liquid on the small table. Torao glanced at Hanami’s distorted face and she answered. “It’s just plain coffee! Really?! No creamer or anything!”
“What?”
“That’s disgusting! It’s so bitter!”
“That is why I drink it; if I didn’t drink it every morning, I would be half-dead the rest of the day.” Torao smirked and pulled Hanami’s face back to normal. Her eyes sparkled and they just stood there for a moment, enjoying the tranquility. But, that moment ended with a break from Hanami’s girlish tone.
“Why did you become a hunter?” Torao’s face twisted into a frown and Hanami immediately tried to take back her question. “No, forget I asked. I’m sorry, just let it go and smile again.” Hanami tugged herself closer and placed Torao’s chin on her forehead. “Please; forgive me for asking. It obviously is a bad subject.”
“I don’t blame you for being curious,” Hanami glanced up at Torao’s crimson eye, his azure eye covered by his shaggy, black hair, “so I’ll tell you.”
Torao led Hanami to the bed and placed her in the middle. He got back up and started to pace the remaining space in the tent.
“To be honest, I can’t remember half of my life.” Hanami didn’t react, she just gestured for Torao to go on. “All I can remember is waking up in a hospital bed, another hunter telling me my name, birthday, height and finally someone handing me my hunter uniform plus my gun.”
“Really?! You can’t remember anything else from before that? Nothing?”
“Nope. Absolutely nothing.” Hanami summoned a rose and twirled it in her palm. “What are you doing?”
