Settling In

I walk into my new apartment, and my earlier thoughts of it being too small ceased. It was smaller, mind you, but not by very much. The proportions were similar, but smaller enough to be noticed.

I set down my suitcase in the small and slightly narrow entrance hallway. I wander the apartment and find the bedroom. The majority of the house is already furnished, but with sterile white covering. I shiver, it's almost like being in a hospital where Alison-.

I quickly and mentally slap myself and clear the thought out of my mind. I take a deep breath, and slowly let it out. I get my suitcase, and go back to the bedroom. I unpack my clothes and put them in the dresser, and I carefully put my Atheist pendant behind the dresser on a snag in the paint. Not the best, but it will do for now.

Someone knocks on the door. I jump and rush to open it. When the door opens fully, I see Tyler standing there. "Oh, hey Tyler."

Tyler nervously runs a hand through his hair. "Yeah, well... I need to tell you something."

I frown at the signs of his nervousness. "What are you so nervous about?"

Tyler grins sheepishly, his previous all-business attitude now gone. "Can I come in? I just don't want anyone to overhear."

I instantly think to my pendant, but allow him in anyways. He's not going to go into my room, right?

Tyler nods in thanks and comes inside. "Not decorated much, have you?" His words are stuttered slightly, and he looks overheated.

I frown. "I just moved in, I wouldn't have time to decorate."

Tyler nods. "Of course, of course."

I cross my arms and lean against the nearest wall. "Tyler, what's wrong?"

Tyler shakes his head quickly and lets himself out of my apartment.

I wearily look at his retreating back. "What was that?" I whispered, to no one in particular. I shrug and close the door after him, and finish unpacking my clothing.

When I'm done, I glance behind my dresser. My pendant still hangs, but I fear the paint will give away. I pick it up cautiously, and look at my closet. Not much, but there is a safe. I open it with the allocated code taped on the top. I place my pendant in there with my jewelry box, and change the code.

I glance at my watch, and see it's only 12. It seems much later. I go into the kitchen and put together a sandwich. I wolf it down, and lay down in bed. I drift into sleep, not waking up until morning.
