His scream echoed through the alley and then he blacked out, I could hear others running our way. Thump thump thump, the sound of people on the roof jumping down onto awnings and over hangs to get down to the street level.

"Lets get out of here before we find ourselves in a situation that we can't fight our way out of." Reeve pulled me away, we tore down the alley and hooked a left. I could hear the two guys jump down on the alley and start after us, as we turned I saw three guys running our way.

"We've got trouble" shaking my head to the three behind us who gather up with the two from the roof. Why can't I ever catch a break?I sprint to pull along Reeve.

"You know if we would have just knocked him out instead of you making him squeal, we could have been halfway home by now." He shouts out to me as we take a right and attempt to out maneuver them in the tight alleyways. He didn't warn me and i had to push off the wall as we turned, it stripped my hand a layer or two of skin.

"Thanks for pointing out the obvious rotbrain, and for the lack of warning of the turn." I glare at him as he smiles cheekily at me, "Dingabitt" I mutter at him as we start to pull away from our pursuers. Turn toget a better view of who's all chasing us I see one pull a blade, attempting to throw it.

"Son of a street girlie" I shout as a dagger flies past me and embeds itself into the wall on my right, not very accurate but dangerous nonetheless.

"Let's keep going and out run them and cross over dead man's bridge and cut back up the way" Reeve shouts and starts to pull away down the alley.

I grab his arm and take the next right and duck down between two buildings and I find the spare key as I fling open a cellar door that Potts used to store things in. I walk over to a table he has near the entrance, I grab a candle and light it as I evaluate what's in the storage room.

"What us this?" Reeve inquiries as he shuts the door behind us and walks down the shirt flight of stairs. As he joins me I point to a hand painted sign in the corner that reads 'Potts kitchen equipment'.

"So, this is nice" he gestures to the dusty room "how long do we wait in here for them to leave us be?"

"Probably an hour or so, if not the night" I look at him and can tell he's getting agitated "there are cots in the corner folded up, I think he has a blanket or two, be stores all his extra stuff in her that doesn't fit in his room at the citadel" I start to walk back to the corner and pull one out, he joins me and grabs the other one.

"My da is gonna be mad that we stayed out this late, not to mention fighting with some street crew," he looks over at me "What are we gonna do?"

"We're gonna wait them out, I think if we just do that they'll give up or backtrack to they're own neighborhood" I start to think of how to get out of this, and then I remember that the bridge was close, if we had to we could make a run for it.

"Balderdash, I'm going to get into so much trouble for this." he whines as he throws himself back down on the cot, it rips and he falls through.

"And that Reeve, is why you should be careful of how you throw your weight on sketchy objects" I say as I catch my breath and wipe away tears. He looks at me as if it's my fault he fell through.

"Could have warned me these were super old and pieces of lurch" he mutters not even attempting to pull himself out of the mess. I follow suit and lay down to wait them out.

"Wake up!" I roll away, why is Potts in my room? He never comes down here. Then it all comes back to me, I open my eyes and watch Reeve pick up his blade and start up the stairs. At the top he turns around and sees me still in bed "Come on, we haven't got all night you grave stalker!"

"Yeah? Well your a dirty lurch" I say as I roll off of the cot and pick up my sword and walk up after him.

"I heard them walk this way and then the guard chased them down the other way, now's the time to make a run for it." He whispers to me.

"Well maybe your not a rotbrain after all" I laugh and push open the cellar door with him following me, I lock the door and put away the key. We start to walk down the opposite way and finish our walk to his house.

When we arrive his house is dark, we walk over to the shed on the sideEof the house and put away our gear and blades.

"Well, it looks as if you can tell your da you do in a bit later than we thought and play it off". I mention to him, he just gestures behind me so I turn around.

"Well, fancy seeing you here" Mr.Smith says "Its almost dead man's hour and here you are dragging into my shed and causing a Ruckus" he starts and I can see Reeve try and say something out of the corner of my eye "Not yet, I'm not done. You show up late, very late you hurt your mom's feelings when you two missed her stew, so she fed me three servings of her stew." He pats he stomach "And that hurt me, so you've got a lot of apologizing to do, boys" he crosses his arms and waits for them.

"Practice ended up taking longer than we thought it would, and I hurt Van's leg so I had to help him and it was already late so we had to hide in Potts storage cellar so we didn't get robbed by any street crews." Reeve admits most of the truth and I understand that's enough of it to satisfy his father.

Mr.Smith looks over and me "That true boy?" I nod and he walks over and grabs my knee that I was favoring, runs his hands over it and pressed on it. It hurts and I pull away "Put some ice on it and filled good in a few hours, it's too late for you to get into the fort close at this time of night, you can sleep on he extra bed in the back of the house" we all walk back into the house and Reeve hands me a blanket.

He grabs my forearm and I grab his "We can't tell anyone about these" I say and he nods "Glad we agree, good night Reeve" he nods and heads upstairs to his room. I get situated and comfortable, I begin to think of how different I would be if I had parents to discipline me and worry for me. As I think of that I slip into another weird dream.

The voices are more clear this time and I can make out certain sentences "What's your name boy? If you tell me your name I can come and get you and you'll have everything you want" one old voice says.

"No" I say in a soft voice but it booms across the dream and all the other voices quiet down. I can feel them reaching out trying to probe me for information but few can reach me, and those that can are too soft they merely feel like a soft caress against my mind.
