The 'Luna'

I stood by the door frame looking into the dining hall. Standing bold in the middle of the room is a long wooden table made out of thick wood, oiled and sanded back to perfection. Wood from the trees that litter the ground of the Far North, it lacks the warm streaks of colour back home did but it was sturdy none the less. Home - that word immediately makes my face fall even more. Natural dents and discolouration of the wooden fibres seeps through the table, it is the main attraction of the room. The table is big enough for 12 wolves to sit at, the head of the table is where Grey sits giving him full view of everyone sitting before him. To his left sits his beta and brother Ezra, and next to Ezra is the third in command who's name I do not know. Nara and Fala also sit at the table, everyone has there place. On Greys right is where the Luna of the pack and the Alphas mate is supposed to sit, that she-wolf is sitting next to him.

A wave of jealously sinks into me seeing her sit in that spot, my spot.

Nara sees me awkwardly standing at the doorway and smiles a small smile, diverting her gaze from me to where the she-wolf sits next to Grey as if she knows we are mates - the she-wolf imposer is lying and is taking position next to my mate. My upper lip curls momentarily and a small rumble forms in my chest.

"Lena come eat with us, you must be starving from your travels" she smiles brightly at me without teeth before looking at the head of the table. I take a seat next to Fala refusing to make eye contact with anyone at the table. My eyes are transfixed onto the detail of the wooden table.

Lined along the table is a variety of roasted meat, vegetables and dressings, I take a small proportion of each thing and my taste buds begin watering from the smell of succulant cooked to perfection roast. I don't take any more than I need, something my mother taught us since our teeth began nipping at her breasts as our greedy guts nuzzled her mothers milk.

The table is silent as we eat, the she-wolf is speaking to Grey in a hushed whisper but his eyes do not meet hers.

I think back to my family, what would they be doing right now?

Shamus? , I try mind linking with my brother but I get nothing in return. I can't feel anything, perhaps the distance is too great.

"Those valley wolves are lucky to have us" the she-wolves nasally voice knocks me out of my thoughts, my eyes instantly flick to where the abomination of a voice came from.

At the head of the table Grey is looking down at his plate, the she wolf is leaning forward on her elbows in her chair inching much closer to my mate than necessary. My wolf is raging edging me to jump over the table and tear her whore throat out, she has no idea that her Alphas real mate is right here.

My wolf lifts her lip up in warning, she does not see this male meeting her expectations.

I continue to watch the exchange in front of me, my breathing is coming out more shallow and flustered as my body begins tensing. The she-wolf leans even closer to male and brushes her hand along his jaw, down his arm resting on his chest.

A menacing snarl fills the room and startles me, I then realise that aggressive snarl came from us, my wolf is pushing me to let her loose so she can send this whore to the moon for touching what is ours.

All eyes are directed to me as I intensely stare at the wide eyed she-wolf clearly taken back by my sudden outburst...weak

"Lena stop it." Greys voice calls out to me but I ignore, my wolf pacing back and forth in rage.

The she-wolf offers me her own warning growl, expecting me to back down. How dare she touch my mate.

"You wolves of the valley are all the same" her nasally voice spits, "We save your pathetic pack and get a worthless she-wolf in return, we should've taken all your land."
