I am sleeping in the back of a silver car. The next thing I know I hear my mother scream and then we plunge into the icy black river. I struggle to unbuckle my seat belt so I could get out. I unclip my seat belt and climb to the front to help my parents. My father is dead, his head smashed against the windshield where water is streaming in. My mother is gone. By gone I mean she isn't even in the car, and her door was ripped off. I knew I was now alone. The water flooded in as I pulled my booted foot from in between the seats and climbed out the car. I could feel myself losing oxygen as I forced myself upward. It took forever and I finally broke the surface. I swam to the shore, exhausted and passed out, the tears streaming down my face.
