Men fall like daises
never to rise again
laugh again
brothers bleed
women cry
no one heeds
the peaceful sigh
the call of Love
far too shy
When the carnage rages and bullets fly
carried like birds by Death's sad eyes
When the mother weeps and moans,
and the father visits tombstones
What will you do, America?
How will you heal, America?
Boys lost far too young
Lives from both sides cut and gone
When Liberty rings up her cashier,
you'll find the price too heavy to bear
What will you do, America?
How will you survive, America?
But bear the toll of war you must;
carry it for all of us
A house divided cannot stand,
it'll be buried in sinking sand
A massacre fight for honoring freedom;
are they really free, or did we deceive them?
decades later the war rages on
natural hatred far too strong
Our men bled and they died and they carried the cross
Now let us forgive—love all of us
for preserve
we must
(written for a school assignment on the Civil War)
