Third Person's POV
Year 2015, June: The Killing Begins
Friday Night, Lee Soyeon, the first victim.

The night was strangely cold and dark because it's in the middle of summer. Everyone retired back to their homes early after a long week of work and the streets of Ssangmun-Dong; a Neighbourhood in Dobong-gu, was hauntingly quiet and empty.

Lee Soyeon, just like the people in this Neighbourhood, have decided to be home early to rest and prepare for her big day tomorrow. That's right, she's getting married. She yawned while changing songs to play and little did she know that someone was watching her from afar; a man wearing a black hoodie.

That man in the black hoodie walked up behind her and covered her eyes while back hugging her to prevent her from running away. Soyeon started to chuckle because she thought that the man was her fiancé.

"Yah Jagiya stop fooling around, I know it's you!" Soyeon said but later froze when she realised that there was no response and then she felt a cloth cover her mouth. The next thing she knew, she never woke up again.

The man with the black hoodie then carried the lifeless body of Lee Soyeon into his van and he then started to engrave a number on Soyeon's ring finger. It was the Roman numeral for the number '1'. After that, he hid Lee Soyeon's body in a dark alley and left.

The next morning, everyone was surrounding Soyeon's dead body and when the police arrived, they immediately barricaded the area with the police's barricade tape.

Her fiancé was non other than Kim Taehyung, the fastest Detective of Seoul's Police Force.

Taehyung took a step towards Soyeon's lifeless body and he couldn't believe his eyes.

"Soyeon-ah..." He said as he knelt down beside her while holding back his tears.

"I'll call her family!" One of Taehyung's colleagues said, unaware that Taehyung was her only family.

"Don't bother. I'm her fiancé... her only family." He said and his colleague just nodded his head awkwardly and hurried off.

"Where's the forensic team?" Taehyung shouted with a shaky voice and they immediately came over to inspect the body.

"Time of death, 10:32pm. Cause of death, suffocation and inhalation of a toxic chemical." Taehyung nodded with a heavy heart as he jot down notes in his notebook.

He then squat down and inspected Soyeon's body. His eyes then focused on the victim's ring finger and he held it up to have a closer look. It was the ring that he used to propose to Soyeon.

"We were supposed to get married today." Taehyung whispered, his voice cracking.

"Wait. There's a Roman numeral 'one' engraved on Soyeon's ring finger." Jisoo, Taehyung's Brother pointed out.

And that, my friends, was the start of the serial killing in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong district in Seoul.

Taehyung's POV
Year 2017, June: Mystery Unsolved
Monday Morning, Cho Nayeon, the fifth victim.

It has been exactly 2 years since that fatal night. We were supposed to get married that day... I sighed as I fiddled with Soyeon's ring. I then put it down and flipped through the files of the murder cases committed by the same person who killed Soyeon; the Engraver.

Time of Death: 10:31pm
Cause of Death: Suffocation and inhalation of a toxic chemical.
Engraved Roman Numeral: I (1)
Position of Engraved Numeral: Ring Finger
Location where body was found: Alley of Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu.

Second Victim: Isabelle Kim Hyeonseo
Time of Death: 11:43pm
Cause of Death: Suffocation and inhalation of a toxic chemical.
Engraved Roman Numeral: III (3)
Position of Engraved Numeral: Ring Finger
Location where body was found: Park.

Third Victim: Go Ah-Young
Time of Death: 10:27pm
Cause of Death: Suffocation and inhalation of a toxic chemical.
Engraved Roman Numeral: VI (6)
Position of Engraved Numeral: Ring Finger
Location where body was found: Back alley of abandoned shops.

Fourth Victim: Jung Eunbyul
Time of Death: 11:36pm
Cause of Death: Suffocation and inhalation of a toxic chemical.
Engraved Roman Numeral: VII (7)
Position of Engraved Numeral: Ring Finger
Location where body was found: By a river.

All the methods of killing are the same and it's obvious that it's done by the same person. The only thing I don't understand is the Roman numerals. What exactly do they mean?

No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to find the meaning behind the Roman numerals. I ruffled my hair in frustration.

"Sir! There's another victim!" One of my colleagues burst into my office and shouted. I immediately took my coat and headed straight for the car.

After we arrived at the crime scene, my Brother, Jisoo, was already there.
"Hyung, what's the situation?" I asked.

"Same thing. It's the engraver again." He said and sighed as I cursed and kicked a rock out of frustration.

The killing is getting out of hand. It's already the 5th victim.

"Her name is Cho Nayeon. Time of Death, 10:38pm yesterday. Cause of death, same reason. Roman numeral engraved is IV, 4." Hyung said while flipping through his notebook.

I nodded and while writing down my own notes, the chief of Seoul's police force came up to me.

"Taehyung-ssi, starting from next week, there'll be a new colleague. She's the chief of Daegu's special crime unit and she'll be transferred here to help out with the case of the engraver." He said.

"It's a girl?" Moonbin, one of my colleagues said in excitement.

"Yes and I want all of you to look after her. Understand?"

"Yes Sir!"
