“Love, are you okay?” I asked, as I held her hand in mine, tears threatening to fall from my eyes.
“Yes” She whispered and smiled faintly. But despite her words, I can still see the pain she tries to hide in her eyes.
“I love you,” she said very faintly.
“I love you too honey.” I said, and kissed her on the forehead.
“I miss her.” she whispered quietly, tears crinkling at the sides of her eyes.
I stiffened as heavy tears started to fall from my eyes.
“I know honey, I miss her too. But you have to be strong.”
“Is she happy? Wherever she is?”
“Yes.”
“Can I stop being strong now?”
I sobbed harder. “No, please don't give up.”
“But I'm tired.”
“You just need to rest, Love,”
“Will I be okay if I rest?”
“Yes.”
“Will you be okay?”
I closed my eyes, it pained me to say these words. But these little moments...they could be the last.
“Yes Love, as long as you're happy.”
She smiled, her soft, frail hands cupped my cheeks and wiped my tears.
“Then I'm happy.”
