I am in this awful fish tank. Oh and did I mention I'm a mermaid? I must have left that detail out. Yes, I'm a mermaid named Annika. I have been in a fish tank by scientists for the past two years. I miss my home back in Serdania. I was the princess in the beautiful, underwater kingdom.

Instead of being home where I belong, I am stuck here in a laboratory for testing. According to the humans I'm a "scientific breakthrough." Yeah, just wait until I breakthrough and ruin your experiment. Well, that's what's happening next.

I found a way to escape this living hell. Apparently, the humans think I can grow legs when I'm dry. I have no idea if this is true, or if it is a trap. Anyways I have a plan.

Whenever I get my one food ration on the morning, the scientists have to open my tank. I'm simply going to crawl out quickly, dry off, and run away. I have no idea where I'll go or what I will do, but I will find a way.

The scientists are about to give me my ration. Luckily, the person feeding me is a panicky intern, so this will be easier than I thought. I am pushing on the edge of the tank. I put my tail on the edge of the glass, and I fell. That hurt.

I am now laying on the ground. I have not felt the floor for so long. I feel my skin drying. Oh and that stupid intern passed out two minutes ago. I'm safe, for now. My tail  is separating in two and my fins are now feet.

I am standing up for the first time. Every step feels super wobbly. I feel like I could fall any minute.

I am outside the lab when I realized I have no clothes. One thing I learned from the humans is you cannot ever be naked. I know, it's so weird.

Instead of walking around naked, I have to steal some clothes. I'm sneaking around outside behind bushes looking for clothes.

So I have been wandering without clothes for hours. My feet hurt and I am giving up. I found a canal I can jump in as an alternative solution. Next stop: the ocean.
