(Beep Beep Beep) my alarm clock went,
"Why, it's only Saturday," I groaned while adjusting my eyes to the light in my bedroom.
Every Saturday morning I would have go to soccer practice, but no offensive I love soccer a lot but sometimes going to practice could be a pain in the butt. Can you imagine being force by your parents to eat oatmeal every single Saturday?
Anyway when I went downstairs I smelled something strange like smoke in the kitchen so I ran fast down the stairs to see what is was.
As I got to the kitchen I see my mom standing over the stove staring out the window while a pan of bacon burn on the stove.
I ran over to my mom to turn off the stove,
"Uh mom you know I like my bacon crispy but not this crispy," I chuckled to see if my mom would react but all she did was blink.
"Mom are you okay?" I asked with a worried tone with my hand on her shoulder.
Few seconds later she jumped a little like she just realized I was next to her,
"Oh Chris I didn't realize you were there,"
"Uh mom I came down like a five minute age" I said with a worried face,
"Mom..."
"Honey why don't you buy some breakfast this morning, there is a ten dollar bill in my purse," my mom said while interrupting me,
"O-kay but first are you are okay mom,"
"Yes, I couldn't be better."
After that weird conversation I just decided to leave it alone and head for my car.
On my way to soccer practice I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong so I decided to call my dad cell phone but he didn't pick up no matter how much I called.
Finally I arrived to the soccer field ready for another day of misery and sweat but to be honest it was worth the pain to get this amazing body.
(30 minutes in the game) I have to stay focused in the game, I thought to myself as I stood in the middle of soccer field. Mom is perfectly fine, I try to convince myself but deep down I knew something was wrong.
This morning she was acting strange, it was like she was trapped inside of another world. She had bags under her eyes like she was crying all night and wore a long sweater that that covered her whole body. Her voice sounded like she was depressed which got me worried.
Today I knew I definitely have to keep my head in the game since it was the last day that me and my team The Cheetahs would be practicing before the big game but since this morning I worried that something has happened last night.
"MILLER GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME," yelled my coach looking furious. I shook my head gaining back focus on the game.
An hour has passed and I was sweating like a pig on the field but can you blame me for being so hot.
Soon it was time to head home but coach wanted to say a few words,
"Okay team, the big game is the day after tomorrow and I just wanted to say how proud I am that you guys worked so hard to get yourself here even our star player Chris Miller."
(Applause)
After that speech to be honest I thought that speech was cheesy since that's what every coach would say something similar to their team but I didn't say anything but clap.
As I was driving home from soccer practice I kept trying to call my mom but her phone kept going to voicemail then at that moment I knew something was wrong so I put my foot on the pedal.
When I finally arrived home inside looked like a mess. I saw chairs flipped, holes in the wall and broken glass on the floor but the most horrific sight I ever saw was my mom on the floor bleeding.
I ran towards to see if she was still breathing and thank god she was but as she tried to speak she cough up some blood so I told her not to talk.
I looked around to see what happened while I was gone but then my mom said something that got me furious,
"It was your.... M-Mike," she said with a weak shaky voice.
After I heard those word I began to scream while a tear ran down my face then without thinking I ran to my mother's room then my room and began packing. I was so blinded by rage by what my father had done, but I was even more upset with myself for not getting my mother away from that monster.
When I was 4 years old my mom's boyfriend would abuse me and my mother if we ever disrespected him or he was either intoxicated.
Long ago I had an older sister named Emily, she was my best friend because she was always there for me to treat my wounds when Mike would hit me or secretly give me food when dad tells me that I wasn't allowed to have food for a week for talking back but then one day out of nowhere she died because she hanged herself.
I was so depressed during that time even when I never knew the reason why she did it. But I knew that Emily wouldn't just leave me without saying goodbye.
After I was finished packing I put the bags in my car then went to get my mother. At first she refused to go but I told her that it was going to okay while I helped her to my car.
I went back in the house to see if I got everything my mother and I would need on our way to anywhere that was far away from Mike. I even took his secret money stash that hold about 600 thousand dollars.
Then as I started the car me and my mom began to drive far away from our nightmares.
