-Tillie's POV-

When I woke up the next morning, it was to Fern's face, our noses almost touching, and her legs tangled with mine. I silently thanked the Lord that she was still asleep, raising my face to the ceiling as if I could see through it to His face above. In the quiet, dark time right before I fell asleep last night, I had decided to make her breakfast in bed. I quietly slipped out of her grip, leaving her to snuggle with Moe, her multi-coloured seal (a Pillow Pet). Of course, I almost ruined my smooth escape when I yawned loudly and sneezed, as soon as I sat up. I glanced behind me, frozen with fear that she would wake, when I heard her moving around. But all she did was curl into a little ball, snuggling Moe to her chest and rubbing her face against the soft fabric of his pointed snout. I giggled quietly at the sight. She was half-cat, I swear.

After pulling some sweatpants over my sleep shorts, I headed to the kitchen, getting the ingredients from the fridge and pantry for waffles. For an extra treat, I threw some of our Special Occasion chocolate chips in with the batter, stirring as I waited for the iron to warm up. I began to hum as I spooned batter into the waffle iron, a German folk song I'd memorized ages ago, and shut the lid. I was so focused on the waffles, willing them to hurry up so I could sink my teeth into their chocolatey goodness, that I didn't register the soft footsteps until Fern slipped her arms around my waist from behind. "Mmmm.." She hummed, laying her head on my shoulder. "Smells yummy." Her warm breath fanned across my neck, and she was still so warm and cuddly from sleep that I suddenly felt cold where she wasn't touching. "You're making me want to go back to bed, Fern." I complained, checking for the tell-tale steam that meant the iron was working.

She rubbed her face against my shoulder, tightening her grip around my waist as I took the crisp waffle out of the iron with a fork. "You're half-cat, I swear. I can't pour the batter with you hanging onto me." Actually, I was starting to believe she'd make a good fauna, like in the RWBY universe. She loved fish, playing with yarn, rubbing her face against things (like pillows and stuffed animals.. also me for that matter), and she went from sassy and sarcastic to cute and affectionate, just like that (cue the snap). "Get off me, kitty." She was still half-asleep, it seemed, and just meowed softly, not letting me go. Finally I just sighed and reached for the bowl as best I could, sliding it closer so I could make the next batch. When I slid the first waffle onto a plate, however, she inhaled deeply, breathing in the smell of chocolate, and without warning snatched it, running to the bedroom. I laughed, shaking my head as I finished pouring the batter.

When I came back to the room, bearing the plate piled high with waffles, I found Fern in a cacoon of blankets, eyes narrow as she munched her stolen prize. I just looked at her for a moment and started laughing. "You look like an angry marshmallow." I told her, causing her eyes go even narrower. She hissed at me, drawing even farther into the cacoon until I could only see her eyes. "I waft avonthr." Muffled by the blankets, I was pretty sure she was asking for another waffle. But I wasn't going to simply hand it over, I was going to have some fun. "You want what?" I asked her, innocently raising my eyebrows. "I bunt anover." She repeated. I nodded, "So you want me to put them away? Okay, but you're being kinda lazy, if you ask me. I made them, the least you could do is clean up." I turned around, heading back to the kitchen, silently laughing as I waited for her response. "I lunt anoder!" She yelled, still muffled.

I turned around and grinned innocently at her, waving the plate so the smell wafted towards her. "You have to speak more clearly, Fern." She threw back the covers, an irritated look plain on her features, and proclaimed clearly, "I want another." I raised an eyebrow at her, not moving.
"Please." She added. I grinned and handed her a warm waffle, crisp and chocolatey, from the stack. As I turned around, heading back to the kitchen, I felt Fern hug me from behind. "Thanks for breakfast, Tillie." She whispered, giving me a squeeze. I leaned against her, closing my eyes for a moment. "You're welcome." She tweaked my side, then raced away with yet another waffle while I was distracted. I chuckled, then narrowed my eyes and set the plate down on the bedside table. "I'll get you for that!" I chased after her, through the hall and the kitchen and finally back to the bedroom, both of us shrieking with laughter.

-Luke's POV-

Since we had a free day, the guys had decided to beat the stifling heat by going to the water park. I was down, of course, I just had to check that my swim shorts still fit. They did, thankfully, so I grabbed a towel and my phone before racing out the door. They were NOT going to put me in the middle this time, if I had anything to say about it.

I sighed, tucking my elbows closer to my body. So much for not being stuck in the middle, I thought as Calum shifted next to me. All because Ashton insisted on putting all of our stuff in the passenger seat, since he got "distracted" too easily. "Bunch of crap.." I muttered. "Did you say something?" Michael asked. I hadn't realized he heard me, the look in his eyes was a million miles away. "Nah." He nodded absently and went back to staring out the window. I wonder what he's thinking about..
