We're coloring. I'm coloring a dog, and she's doing a cat. Smiling, I watch as she grabs a purple crayon and starts to color it's fur.

"Cats aren't purple." she looks up at me, her face trying to look serious.

"They are in my kingdom." Putting my own crayon down I look at her.

"Is that so?" she smiles.

"Yup!" she turns back to her cat and continues to color it purple, before she stops and looks at me. "Hey...can I tell you something?" I sit up, worried.

"Of course. We're friends, best friends." I give her a small reassuring smile.

"Well...I'm turning 8 tomorrow...and Daddy...he said..." Her voice trails off, tears pricking the edge of her eyes.

"Whoa there kid. What's with the tears?" I say surprised. She looks at me, her eyes filled with tears.

"D-Daddy said t-that y-you're not r-real." I tilt my head to the side,

"How come?"

"H-he said t-that since he c-can't see you, y-you can't b-be r-real." Now she's sobbing, but very quietly, clearly she doesn't want her dad to hear.

"You can see me." I say softly as my hands become physical and wipe her tears away.

"But-" I cut her off.

" You're my friend. Sure no one else can see me, but you can. And that makes you special." She smiles, and looks up at me.

"You're right. And we'll be friends no matter what, right?" I smile.

"Right. What are imaginary friends for?"
