“Sir, just give me a chance!” I’m yelling at them through bared teeth now, frustration clearly emitting from my body and possibly a little bit of spit flying out of my mouth. But we all ignore that for my dignity's sake.
Both of them look sceptical.
“Look Jackie-” I cut off Mr Ewan’s stupid British voice before he can go any further.
“Mr Ewan, you have seen me play before! You know I can do this, even without all the extra training I’ve been putting in! I have been working towards this for the last eight months, you have to at least give me a chance, I mean. Come. On!” Again, no response. But I knew these guys well enough to figure out it was a good silence. They were actually considering this. Finally!

“Jackie, I’m not so sure about this” Mr Richmond finally says. I stare at him blankly, waiting for an explanation. I’m best friends with his daughter; he has also seen me play. They both know I can do this; they’re just being sexist pigs about it.  Typical.
“Seriously guys? You bo-”
“Let her try out Mr Ewan, Mr Richmond. There’s no harm in it, either she’s good enough or she isn’t.” My saviour!
“And if she’s the reason you get cut?”
“Well, then I don’t deserve to be on the team, do I?” Okay now that doesn’t sound like anyone I know. Slowly, my mind ticks through the male soccer players in the school.  None with that attitude are forthcoming, so I assume it must be sarcasm. It's very rare for any of the guys to be so humble about sports. And as soon as my head swivels and my eyes connect with his, I know for sure this is a joke. Not a saviour, just the devil re-incarnated. Sharp grey eyes, black hair and taught, well defined facial features make up this devil.

“Your asshole attitude isn’t welcome here Dom.” I snap, glowering at him.
“Now, now Jackie, I’m only trying to help” he has the audacity to look hurt, all wide-eyed and mouth slightly ajar.
“I don’t need your help you dick-weed, now scram!” I try to look threatening and take a step towards him, chest puffed out and all, but clumsy decides to show herself at that exact point, and I trip over absolutely nothing, plunging headfirst to the ground. Or at least, I would have if strong, warm arms didn’t grab me before I plummeted to complete humiliation. As I open my eyes, I see that I am flush up against the Devil himself, my head barely making it to his shoulders and my chest pressed firmly against his own.
As I glance up, I see a twinkle in his stormy eyes. Before I have the chance to wonder what he’s thinking, he has his two hands full of my ass.
“GET OFF ME YOU MAN WHORE!” Everyone at tryouts is watching us now, and I feel my whole body heating up, certain that my cheeks are blood red.
Mr Ewan clears his throat, looking around nervously, Mr Richmond is glancing anywhere but at us and Dom looks smug as all hell. I wriggle around in his embrace until he finally lets me go. I look him in the eye, contemplate it for about half a second, and then punch him in the jaw before spinning on my heel and walking towards the change rooms. Without looking back, I yell over my shoulder to the teachers “I’ll be out in ten, just gotta get all my gear on” and strut off, head held high and a smirk on my lips.

As soon as I walk into the change rooms, my shoulders slump foreward. I forgot about Dom, and with him as captain this year, it's going to be hard as hell for me to win the favour of the team. I quickly throw on my gear, tightening my shin pads, pulling up my socks and taping up my shoes. I pull my hair out of it's braid and tie it up in a high pony, making sure to not miss any bits. I can't leave anything for Dom to criticize me on. Before going out to possibly the hardest thing i'll have to do so far, I chuck my best friend a text, letting her know that they'll at least be letting my try out for the team. She replies about 30 seconds later, telling me she'll be down cheering me on. I grin a little at that. At least having her there will make this more entertaining.

Taking a deep breath and mentally preparing myself for this test, I head back out onto the field. Head held high and a confident smile gracing my lips, I take my sweet time walking over. I want everyone to know I'm here to go hard, and that I'm confident I'll get it.
Just like every year, most of the school has turned out to watch tryouts. Soccer is a big thing in our school, mostly because we have such a great team. But I guess word had spread about my trying out, because there was definitely a bigger turn out this year.

Just as I am about to reach the rest of the team, I hear a familiar female voive shouting from the sidelines.
"WOOHOO! Go Jackie! Kick Dom's sorry ass! Show them who's boss! Yeah girl, you can do it!" I duck my head, feeling a blush creep up onto my face.
"Sorry guys" I mumble quietly, my confidence diminished by her embarrassing outburst.
"Okay... Well uh, now that we're all here" Mr Ewan looks at me pointedley. "I guess we can start. Let's try some basic skill training first."
I nod my head slowly, following the team to where the skill section has been set up. slowly, the line in front of me shortens until suddenly I'm faced with the set up.
"You're up sweetheart" A chilling voice says in my ear. I turn quickly around, snapping at Dom "Really? Are you really sure about that? Gosh, thank you so much for letting me know, because like, I'm too much of a bimbo to like, see that like, no-one was in front of me" I say, twirling my hair around my finger to add to the impression. Dom lets out a low animal like growl before spinning me to face the front and shoving my slightly. I flip him the bird, and just as I'm about to start my run, something knocks my feet out from under me.

Wow. What a great first impression I've made. I can just tell this try out is going to be great!

Or not.
