Chapter 3
No no no no no this can't be possible. It can't. Fear and horror creeps its way into my chest and I stay rooted on the spot, staring at the ugly teddy bear.
It smiles up horrendously at me, black eyes unblinking. I imagine it coming to life and a new wave of fear washes over me, making the hairs at the back of my neck stand up.
Mary Elizabeth calling for me snaps me out of my trance and I run out of my room, slamming the door behind me. I lean against the door, feeling that chill go up my spine again. I start breathing heavily as the panic attacks I haven't been having for years starts up again. I feel tears start to well up in my eyes and I shake my head. Don't cry.
"What are you doing, Caroline?"
My eyes snap open and I gasp to see Elizabeth Mary looming over me. I didn't even realize that I have sunk to the floor and I didn't hear her approaching me either.
"Nothing," I say, turning my head and blinking furiously to get rid of the tears.
"Do you have something in your eyes?"
"NO," I shout, "Go away."
She tsks like she is disappointed with me and turns around, but not before I catch the colour of her lips.
Cherry red, my lipstick colour and the same colour of lipstick that was on the teddy bear.
My head starts pounding furiously as I stare at Elizabeth Mary's retreating back.
She set me up! She put the teddy bear on my bed last night and in my closet earlier. To make things worse, she used my favorite lipstick!
I race down the stairs after her, adrenaline taking over the fear I was feeling earlier.
"Caroline," Sabrina stops me at the bottom of the stairs, worry lacing her features, "Are you alright? You look like you've seen a ghost."
I look over her shoulder and strain to find Elizabeth Mary, "Where is that good for nothing bitch?"
"Woah," She grips my shoulders and forces me to look at her, "You mean your stepmother?"
The word stepmother makes me even more angry, "Where is she!"
"In the kitchen, where she has been since we came back."
"What are you talking about? She just came down these stairs a few seconds ago."
"No, she didn't. I was in the kitchen with her the entire time and I just only left her to find you."
I gape at her, "That can't be possible. I was having a panic attack upstairs and she came and asked me-"
"You were having another panic attack?" Sabrina frowns, "Since when? I thought it stopped?"
"Since I saw the teddy bear in my closet," I try to explain, "But I'm okay now because I know that Elizabeth Mary set me up. She was the one who was putting the teddy bear in my room and I have prove because she's wearing my lipstick and-"
Sabrina releases my shoulders and shakes her head in disappointment, "You need to get help."
I stop midrant and stare at her as she runs her fingers through her straight blonde hair agitedly, "What?"
"You're fucking crazy, Caroline," She says, her blue eyes widening slightly.
I narrow my grey ones at her, "What did you just say?"
"You're starting to see things. First the teddy bear, now Elizabeth Mary."
"Its true," I exclaim, "She set up the teddy bear to make me appear crazy!"
