Chapter 2

I scream so loudly, I'm sure the entire neighbourhood can hear me. I keep my eyes fixated on the teddy bear, afraid to move my eyes away.

"CAROLINE!" My dad shouts, running into my room. I tear my gaze away from the teddy bear and run into his arms. Luke and Elizabeth Mary are right behind him, but right now I don't care about them. I absolutely don't care. What I do care about is how that teddy bear got back on my bed without anyone touching it.

"Look at me, Care." My dad says, tilting my chin up and forcing me to look into his grey eyes, "What happened?"

"The teddy bear," I whimper. I probably sound insane, but again, I don't care.

"What teddy bear, baby?"

"The one on the bed," I turn around to point at the bed. My mouth drops open; there's nothing on the bed.

"There's nothing on the bed," Luke states the obvious.

"Caroline, are you okay?" Elizabeth Mary steps forwards and holds my face between her hands. She's probably faking her worry. I step away from her and scowl, "I'm fine. I swear, the teddy bear was on the bed! I saw it!"

"But baby, there's nothing on the bed," Dad assures me.

"There was!" I insist, resisting the urge to stomp my foot. "The teddy bear was right there-"

"This teddy bear?" Luke interrupts, kneeling next to the rubbish bin and holding up the frayed teddy bear with his thumb and middle finger.

Shocked, I turn to my dad, "I...I....I swear it was on my bed. I threw it away this morning but it went back to my bed!"

"Okay," He shushes me, "We'll throw the teddy bear outside okay? It won't come back in."

"Promise?" I ask, holding out my pinkie finger, not caring that I sound like a five year old.

"Promise," He joins his finger with mine.

"I'm not crazy," I say, denying what everybody is thinking, "It's true."

"I believe you, Care," My dad says. I smile at him, my dad and I have a close relationship and I know that he loves and trusts me. Nomater how much he hurt my mom, I will always love and trust him too.

He takes the teddy bear from Luke and ushers Elizabeth Mary out. Luke and I are left alone.

"I'm not crazy," I repeat.

"Yeah right," He scoffs.

The amount of hurt I feel shocks me. Just earlier we were nice to each other, and now he ruins everything by being a dickhead.
