Chapter 10

I wake up in the middle of the night. It's pitch-black again, and this time Sabrina is not with me. The familiar chill travels up my spine again. Something is here.

Without warning, my room lights come on. I blink for a few seconds to get my eyes to adjust to the sudden brightness. Once they are back to normal, I look around my room. When I see nothing out of the ordinary, I calm down and take a deep breath.

"Hello."

Elizabeth Mary appears out of nowhere in front of me, tears staining her face and her shirt soaked with blood. Her face looks extremely pale and her short black hair is dripping wet.

"You need to help me," She cries, more tears leaking out of her eyes, "YOU NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!"

Do not scream. Do not scream. Do not scream.

What the fuck is going on? Isn't Elizabeth Mary upstairs, sleeping?

"What happened?" My voice comes out shaky and squeaky. I stay rooted on my bed, not daring to move.

"I DIED!" She screams, clutching her blood-soaked shirt.

"How?" It's an even higher pitch now. Great.

"That's what you need to find out," She wails, "It's very important. You need to know who she really is. You need to help me."

I am so confused. This stupid ghost is confusing. The whole world is confusing.

"SAY YOU'LL DO IT!"

"If you keep shouting at me like that, I don't think I will."

What did I just say? WHAT JUST CAME OUT OF MY MOUTH? Now, when a ghost is crying in front of you, is not the time to be sassy, you dumbass.

"Please," Elizabeth Mary sobs so loudly, I'm surprised Luke and my dad hasn't come in to check on me.

"Okay," I nod, even though I am so confused. The lights go back off. I lay back down on my bed and shut my eyes not knowing if Elizabeth Mary has left my room already or not.

Pretty soon, I fall back asleep.

. . .

Elizabeth Mary walks down the stairs the next morning, looking perfectly alive to me. I walk up to her and poke her arm. Well, she didn't disintegrate.

"What are you doing?" She asks.

"Checking to see if you are alive."

She gives me a questioning look and I shrug, "I'm as confused as you are."

I walk back towards Luke and nod, "Okay, lets go."

We walk out of the house after bidding our parents goodbye. "Is Sabrina walking to school with us?" Luke inquires once the door slams shut behind us.

"Nope."

"Perfect," He grins before slamming me against the wall behind the house and lowering his lips to meet mine. We kiss softly for awhile before I hook my fingers in the waistband of his jeans and pull him against me. Luke deepens the kiss and wraps his hands around my waist. I swear, electricity is literally running through my veins.
