As I marched in to school with a big 'I'm 13 today' badge plastered onto my chest, I heard Emma Marks make a comment about my outfit and all her other friends laughed.
She has the perfect life. She's dating Jake Hale, the hottest and most popular boy in school, she has a little possy of fake friends that fuss round her like moths to a light, she's so rich she can always get the newest phone and the best clothes. She's perfect. And what do perfect people do? Make imperfect people feel like shit.
But today is my birthday and I won't let Emma or her friends put me down.I look across the courtyard until I see the familiar brown locks of my best friend Saffron Clark, "Hey! Happy birthday" she squeals while handing me a present. I shove it in my bag, I hate opening presents in font of people. The whole big smile and the "Awww, thank you so much!" In a high pitched voice trying to sound as grateful as possible makes me feel uncomfortable.
I head off to science first lesson alone, Saffron would normally walk with me but she had to go for a meeting with her tutor about more work she can do or something. Suddenly, Eliot Jones walks past and slams my books on to the floor. "Better watch where your going Bitch" Emma snarls while her sidekicks Amber Moss and Jessica Cole kick my books and scatter them across the corridor. "Why so sad? Is it something I said?" she cackles and walks away, holding on to Jake Hale by the arm as if he wanted to run away from her.
I'm not sure where half my books have gone but I gather what I can find and make my way to the nurse so I can be off sick for the rest of the day.
When I get home I can't stop crying.
