It's been a week, exactly seven days, since my dad disappeared. No one knows why he left, not even my mom. Not even me, his only daughter. I haven't left my bedroom the whole week, and the only person I've had contact with is my mom, and that was for a few minutes at most. I don't know how to live without my dad. He was my best friend, the only person that mattered, the only guy I've ever loved. I'm 16, and I've never had a boyfriend. My dad was all I needed. But now he's gone.

"Dil," a voice calls up the stairs. "Dilan!"
"Yes, mom," I reply weakly, clearing my throat afterwards. I haven't spoken for hours.
"I'm looking through your father's things, and I'd like for you to help me," my mom offers. She's been trying to get me out for days now.
"I'll think about." And I do, which is new. Usually I don't even have the energy to think about leaving my room. Today is different somehow, though, and a strange new power seems to flow through me. Maybe today is the day I start to get over my dad.

An hour later, I've gathered up the courage to step outside. I slowly walk down the stairs to my parents' bedroom.
"Mom," I whisper at the door.
"Honey, you're up!" My mom seems excited, and rushes to the door. "I'm just about finished, but there's some stuff left for you to look at."
I bend down and pick through a bin of papers. Dad sure had a lot of paperwork. I toss a lot of it to the side, but a small black leather notebook catches my eye. Dilan is engraved on the front.
"Hey Mom, what's this?" I yell into the kitchen, where she's gone to cook dinner. I show her the notebook.
"Looks like you'll have to figure that out for yourself," she replies. "After all, it has your name on it."
