A Work In Progress Part Two

Present Time

Kevin watches Double D as he gets lost in thought. He watches as he smiles and wipes away a tear that isn't there. Kevin would bet everything that Double D was thinking about the day that Kevin proposed to him. Kevin smiles at the memory of Double D admitting that he always loved him. That one statement filled Kevin with an unbelievable amount of happiness and love for him. Kevin didn't want to interrupt Double D's memory but that were approaching the building.
“Baby, we're here. You ready to meet our future daughter or son?” Kevin gently nudges Double D back to the future. Double D let's out a little gasp and looks around the backseat of the cab.
“We are here already? But we just left the house.” Double D looks over at his fiancé and blushes at Kevin's smile. He has loved his smile since the first time he seen him smile. When Kevin smiles widely he has a dimple on his left cheek and Double D always gets butterflies when he sees it.
“You were daydreaming the whole ride here my love.” Kevin opens the door and gets out. He walks to the other side and helps Double D out then closes the doors and pays the cab driver telling him to keep the change and to wait for them there. As Kevin gives the cab driver directions, Double D looks up at the tall, red brick building and feels a chill run down his spine and he gets goosebumps just standing there. For some reason unknown to him he feels extremely uncomfortable being near this building. It feels as if an evil presence is watching his every move.
“I.... I can not go in there. I can not explain but I do not feel comfortable here.” Double D does his best to not turn and run back into the cab. Kevin looks at Double D and immediately has worry and concern fill his whole body. He looks as if he has seen a ghost right in front of him, his face is pale and his eyes are wide and he is visibly shaken. Kevin grabs hold of Double D's hand, trying to calm his nerves.
“It's OK baby. I'm here for you. If you don't want to use this one we can go to another one in the future. It's completely up to you baby boy.” Double D looks at his fiancé and then back at the building. Even though he wants to leave that place screaming he knows that Kevin strongly wants a kid of his own. Double D doesn't want to go back to being the scared boy he used to be and disappoint his fiancé. He wants and needs to be brave for Kevin.
“No, we would have to start over from the beginning. We have come so far. I do not want to push this back any farther. I know how badly you want a child of your own Kevin. I will not be the reason you have to wait longer to get one.” Double D looks up at the building one last time. He tries to shake the feeling off and starts to walk up the stairs leading to the front door of the building. Kevin follows after him, feeling proud, and whistles the tune of Double D's favorite song, Overcomer By Mandisa, to give Double D even more strength. Double D takes a deep breath and let's Kevin's whistling calm him down.
“Do you want me to go in first baby?” Kevin is still worried about his fiancé and is willing to do anything to protect the love of his life. Double D shakes his head no and unknowingly reaches for Kevin's hand as they enter the tall, overwhelming building for the first time. As soon as they enter they are greeted by two small children, a boy and a girl.  They both have jet black hair with bright, sparkling green eyes that reminds Double D of Kevin's eyes. Their black hair reminds Kevin of Double D's beautiful hair that he still insists of hiding under his beanie even though Kevin has seen him completely naked and overcome by lust.
The little girl immediately run up to Kevin and begins to pull on his jacket sleeve. She smiles up at him and dimples begin to form on both of her chubby little cheeks. The little boy watches the girl and seems sadden by her happiness. Double D kneels down so he is the same height as the boy. The little takes a step back then stops as he sees that Double D isn't a threat to him. He stares at Double D and Double D clearly sees freckles covering the boy's nose and under his eyes.
Double D holds his hand out the little boy. He looks at his hand then back at Double D's face, keeping his hands at his side. Double D drops his hand and tries another approach to get the boy to talk. His looks at Kevin briefly then back at the little boy. He sees worry in the boy's eyes for the little girl. He is sure that she is his sister.
“Hello, I am Eddward but my friends call me Double D. What is your name??” Double D lowers his voice to a whisper so that only the boy can hear him. He waits a few seconds before the boy reacts. The boy looks over his small shoulders to see if anybody was watching him. Double D is shocked at the amount of worry inside this small child.
“Im Johnny but everybody calks me Jay-Jay.” It wasn't much but Double D got him to speak. He saw that as a victory. Jay-Jay looks over at the little girl again. It is clear that he is really worried about her. Double D looks over at them and sees them pointing out shapes on the ceiling. He smiles at Kevin and how easily the girl trusted him.
Double D turns back and looks at Jay-Jay. The little boy is now watching him. No, studying him. Double D is a little put off by this. He tries again to get him to speak as he turns his focus back on the girl and Kevin.
“Is she your sister Jay-Jay?”Double D asks the little boy. Jay-Jay looks back at Double D and nods his head yes. Just as Double D was going to ask Jay-Jay another question the orphanage director calls Kevin and Double D into the office. Double D stands up and Jay-Jay walks over to the little girl and they hurry over to a corner away from the other children in the hallway. Kevin walks over to Double D and reaches for his hand.
“That little girl is adorable baby. Her name is Amara and she has quite an imagination.” Kevin whispers to Double D as they walk over to the office together. Before they enter the office Double D looks back over to Jay-Jay and Amara. The little boy is hugging the girl and it seems as if he is comforting her. Double D sighs and enters the office. He knows in his heart that he can not leave the building without adopting Johnny.
