My name is Detective Kevin Jones, I am now a retired Homicide detective. I once was Head Homicide Detective for the Noosa Heads Police Department in the mid 70s to early 2000s. I have solved over 700 cases in my time as a detective and intend to share them with you. One thing I have learnt in my 30 years experience on the job, is that there is always a life lost; a child of someones, or a sibling, or friend. People are hurt, and there is always someone behind it. This is... JONE'S CASE FILES.

ADDICTED TO MURDER

I remember that week like it was yesterday; it was one of the reason I became Head Detective for the Noosa Heads Police Department. It was my first ever solo case. I was not taken seriously with he other detectives, because I was new and young, I had to earn my spot in the social hierarchy that was the Noosa Heads Police Department: Detectives Precinct.

I been working as a detective in the Noosa Heads Police Department for a total of 5 years before my first solo case. I graduated from The University of Queensland in 1972 with Honours in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Those were some interesting years of my life, and that's all I'm going to say about that.

That week was different to all the other weeks. There was a mass wave of car thefts and brake ins that meant I was the most senior detective not out on a case, which meant I was next in line. Before then I was the coffee boy; the errand runner. If I was lucky, I was allowed to go out on cases with older more experienced detectives, but only got to do small things like; take witness statements and call for background checks.

At that time, I was in my mid-20s, single and married to my job. Of course I had tried to meet someone, but I never had the time. Always working late, coming in early and/or on call. I had been on dates, don't get me wrong, but the ladies seemed to get annoyed when I had to leave halfway through dinner because someone had been murdered. It's not my fault my line of work involves such dedication and long hours. Anyway I digress from the situation at hand.

Murder does not only affect the victim, but the family and friends that are left behind. The life that the victim and people around them could never live because of someones actions. Events that could never take place and memories that will never be made.

One thing that surprised me about this case was how unbelievable the motive of the murder was. How someone can hurt another human being over something the victim didn't even do, but only knew by mistake.

Does anyone deserve to die over something they came across by mistake? No, of course not, but they do, and that's the sad fact about life. You can't really control what you learn, who you meet or what happens to you, we all like to think we can, but we truly can not. This why when a life is taken, I get mad, and I stop at nothing until the killer is behind bars and the victim's family has closure.
