"what the hell!", my mom yelled, "jay, you can't talk to strangers!".

"well, i just thought that maybe it'd be okay for just this one person. i think he looks like a great friend", i totally lied to my oblivious mother.

she smiled softly and ruffled my hair before walking off to her room, where my dad slept and rested up from a previous long nights work. he always was exhausted. i shuffled up the carpeted stairs and to my room. on my walls were posters of anything and everything. from random notes i was thrown to Neon Trees band posters.

my chest felt heavy as i laid down. i know i've seen that black haired boy somewhere, from school possibly. he looked so intriguing and something just drew me towards his devilish look. i always was involved with the wrong people at the wrong time.

"hey, jay?", nya climbed in through my window by this contraption we made awhile ago.

"hey, you know that brown haired boy in detention?", i laughed as i pulled her in.

"my brother?".

"what the hell, you have a brother?!".

nya sat down and told me all about how ever since he joined that 'gang' he was never home and always out with his 'gang'. she gave me his number and i punched it into my phone.

"yeah, so just ask him about the black haired boy", she shrugged.

"okay", i gulped hard and began to type a message to the kid named, "kai".

jay: hi, kai? it's jay, the kid behind you in detention. who's that black haired boy you met up with after school? he just looked familiar to me.

"oh wow", nya laughed, "what a liar", she teased me.

he got back to me quickly.

kai: idiot, his name is cole and he's NOT familiar to you doofus.

jay: give me his number and we never talk again?

kai: deal (###) ### ####

nya and i celebrated my success by listening to my all time favorite band, Neon Trees, and singing bad karaoke to it. she danced around and i did the same. we looked like reckless five year olds that didn't have very good control of their arms.

"uh oh what are you waiting for?", we hit the long note and held it out for longer than we were supposed to.

"jay, jay!", my mom called.

nya and i tripped over each other to run and turn off the radio, before she got upstairs.

"turn down your fucking music, that's all".

nya and i shrugged at each other and continued to dance around to Neon Trees. she jumped on my bed and motioned me to lay next to her. i plopped down on the blue and gray sheet and stared at her speak to me.

"you like cole?", she asked me.

i looked disgusted at her, "uh no".

she rolled her eyes and didn't believe a word i said. it was true though, i never knew this person and all i had ever seen of him was at a druggy looking rundown house where he picked up the rest of his gang whilst he looked around for cops. those are not very attractive qualities in a man. i just purely wanted to know who he was as a person and not a drug lord.

say no to drugs, say yes to personality.
