“Hey loser wake up. Mase is here to pick you up.” My fifteen year old brother throws the door open and yells walking out.
“Hey no yelling in my house.” My mom yells from down stairs. I groan and stretch sitting up. “Sweety, Mason is downstairs about to eat your food I would hurry already.” She yelled from the kitchen.
I get up and go down to get my half done plate.
“Hey this is my ho- My moms house and you don't take her sweetys plate.” I joke and eat the rest of the food.
“Yeah and the Jeep outside is mine and I can leave without you.” Mase said standing up and walking to the door.
“Yeah, Leave your right forward.” I said and put my plate in the sink.
“On second thought. Mrs.Camarda I love this couch I'll wait on it.” Mase said and sits down tapping his fingertips.
I run upstairs and smack my brother in the back of the head as he passes my room. I shut my door and do my bathroom routine. I pat my face dry and pull on my school sweats and hoodie with a grey v-neck under. I grab my jansport bag and duffel bag and throw them downstairs.
“Now, How many times do i have to tell you not to throw your crap downstairs?” My mom yelled showing her country side.
“Sorry mom.” I yelled back and walked downstairs.
“Yeah and for that, You better take Landon to school.” She scolds.
“Yes Ma’am.” I said and picked my bags and walked to the front of the door where Mason and Landon were waiting.
“And DON'T just get in the car and drop him off at the corner like last time.”
“Yes Ma’am.” Mason and I said in unison. I shut the door and climbed into Mase's jeep.
“Are you guys taking me to school--school?” Landon's asks his voice cracking.
“Sureee.” I answer.
He huffs and rest back.
“Put your seat-belt on little one.” Mase looks in the rear view mirror at Landon. He sits there and scrolls on his iPhone. “Fine.” He reaches back and snatches his iPhone. “Ooooo Whose Janye?” Mase whistles and looks through their messages. “Damn Ash your brother has game. Hes texting four girls.” Mase says and speeds to the turn.
“He gets them from me.” I tease and hold on to the top door railing, I know Mase is going to turn wildly to teach Landon a lesson for not listening to him.
***Beep Beep***
*Mama is calling*
***Beep Beep***
Mase steps on the breaks and my chair gets hit by Landon.
“Damn Mase!!” Landon yells and sits back up snatching his phone back.
“Shut up my mom is calling.” He yells and answers the phone.
“Hello-- Who?-- Really When?-- Yes Ma’am. wait is she coming to school today, And what happened to dad?-- Shi- I mean Yay, And of course. Cant wait to see her.-- Bye mom.” He hangs up and slams on the gas.
“Mase slow down. What happened man?” I playfully punch his arm. Luckily we’re at school and he parks. He jumps out and slams the door. Me and Landon slowly get out and Lan goes his separate way.
“Aye, Mase talk to me.” I jog up to him and pull him back.
“What?”
“Yo, chill. Whats your problem?”
“I think I should tell you after eight years.” Mase says and pats my shoulder to follow him. We end up in our middle school hideout.
“Whoa, I know this “stuff” is important since we’re here.” I say and look around to the big oak trees surrounding the circlish grassy area.
“I don't know about that.” He sits down in the driest patch of grass and waits for me.
“So was sup?” I ask and throw my bags to the side.
“So remember when my sister left eight years ago when we were in the fourth grade.” I nod in response. “Well, She left because my mom and dad had divorced and he took her. The only time I saw her her were threw via pictures.”
“My dad, I'm guessing just got remarried and his wife; And she doesn't like kids unless they came out of her--you know.”
“Now My sister…is comi-- is here and will be arriving to school in a matter of an hour.” He stops and breathes in heavily.
“Weren't you like close with her.” I ask. Remembering how all three of us would hang out.
“Exactly I was. Over the years, Without a real mom and family to support her in Cali shes become socially awkward and developed a small case of anxiety. They told her that anyone from here that she left she won't remember. But my mom.”
“And now I have to re-live my whole childhood life so my own little sister will be normal and act like she use too.”
“But why can't she remember this stuff?” I ask. Something must've happened.
“I don't even know that either.” He answers.
“Don't worry. I have to do the same since we’re best friends and always over at each others house.” I explain and nudge him.
“Didn't think of that.”
“Well, you won't be thinking about anything else if we don't get to class.” I jump up and grab my bags.
“Race you?” Mase said as he runs towards the school. I threw my bags on and started running.
I won; Before, when I was running after him he said to go ahead. A car pulled up but the windows were tinted so I couldn't see a thing. I'm now waiting for Mase to get to class.
“Mr.Bartra nice to see you finally arrive.” I look up to see Mase with a kinda mad expression.
“Aye, What happened?” I ask.
“She’s here. And she has gym, lunch, and study hall with us.” He said and opened his book. I sat back and took notes. We didn't talk till 3rd period which was gym.
I stayed in my sweats and Mase changed into his.
“What do I do when I see her?” I ask waiting for permission to leave the locker rooms.
“Uhm, Just don't scare her.” He says and walks out just as our coach tells us to get out.
“What does she look like?”
“My color, light blue eyes, Curly/wavy hair, small no--”
“Was-sup nice ass!?!?” Me and Mase turn to see the football captain walk up to a girl about 5’4 - 5’3. She mumbles something, which causes Tanner to grab her.
“HEY LET GO OF HER!?!?” Mase jogs over there.
“BACK OFF BARTRA!?!?”
“LET. GO. OF. MY. SISTER. NOW.” Mase calmly yells.
