“That's cool. And I don't mind.” She says.
“This way my lady.” I say and show her to my house. She laughs -- Yes laughs. Not like a giggle or a laugh that girls do around guys but a full on laugh, that girls only show to their closest friends.
“Did you just laugh?” I ask in disbelief.
“Uh, Huh yeah. Why?” She says and grabs her phone that buzzed pretty loud.
“Because, well no offense but your a girl and you just laughed like you don't care that me-- a guy is with you.”
“None taken. And i'm not like all the other ‘girls’ and fake out my real self just for some ‘guy’. I'm Tatum Aspen Bartra and I'm not shallow enough to pretend to be fake and pretty around a guy.” She spats and looks back to her phone.
“Sorry. And you are pretty, Even though you aren't fake like you say.” I say and stick my hands in my front pockets.
“Thank-you. So… What do you do around here, Except soccer?” She asks.
“Well, Depends. I either go to the vet hospital in downtown or I drive to some random place and take pictures. What did you ‘use’ to do in Vancouver?”
“You're a photographer? And I would actually do the same. Except the photo thing.”
“I very much am. I’m guessing you like animals.” I say and reach into my pocket for my key. I didn't notice we we’re home till I walked up to ‘my’ doorstep. I open the door and smell cinnamon buns.
“Mom are you home?” I yell and let Tate in.
“Yes. What are you doing here?” She yells back from the kitchen.
“I was getting dads car. I'm taking a friend out around the town.”
“Oh. Well come in the kitchen and introduce me to this friend.”
“Yes ma'am.” I turn to Tatum. “Don't worry she won't bite.“ Tate giggles and follows me to the kitchen.
“Mom this is Tatum. Mase's sister.-- Tate this is Mrs. Camarda , or Mom.” I introduce them to each other.
“Finally boy. Your brought a pretty one home.”
“Mom!?!”
“Oh quite boy. So where are y'all heading in the middle if the day.”
“Ash was going to show me around?”
“I thought you we're Mason's sister. Shouldn't you know the town?”
“I just got back like 3 hours ago.”
“Oh. You're that daughter. Well you'll love this town better than the one from before. -- Ash are you taking your camera, I charged it.” My mom talks to Tate then me.
“Yes ma'am. Where is it?” I ask and reach my hand out for a roll. My mom slaps my hand.
“Your Dad's office, like always. And don't touch it for dessert at the Bartras.”
“Ohkay. And when was I going to be told this.” I say and shift and the words Dad's office.
“I just did. You guys can have one.”
I grab one and walk away to the office.
“Tate you can come if you want?” I stop and turn to her. She has her face stuffed in the roll. Her eyes look at me and I see her cheeks go to a light rose color. “Sure. Mrs. Camarda you're cooking is amazing.” She mumbles her mouth half-full.
“No need brag. I kidd. Y’all have a nice date.” My mom winks in my direction, I roll my eyes and gently pull Tate to the office.
“I love your mom.” Tate says and finishes the roll.
“Nah. Mrs. Bartra is better.”
“I guess. I still have to approach her every day.”
“You’ll be fine. Shes your mom anyway.”
“I guess.”
“Stop saying I guess, and start saying you know.” I slightly yell, and grab the handle to the office. I stop dead in my tracks.
“Are you okay?” Tate rests her free hand on the back of my neck.
“I-I I'm fine. Sorry.” I snap back to reality and open the door. I spot the camera and grab it quickly and turn around running into Tate and falling on top of her, I hold all my weight.
“I thought she was a friend.” I snap my head to my mom and she has her camera and snaps about four photos.
“Mom!?!?” I yell and stand up giving Tate my hand.
“Yell at me again boy.” Mom snaps.
“Sorry. To the both of you. How about we just leave Tate?” I say and pull Tate to the garage. I flick the light on, I see my moms Pathfinder, and my two motorbikes. In the dark corner, a grey car cover is sitting in the dust.
“Which one?”
“Whats the one under the cover?” Tate asks and walks to it, rubbing her hands on the cover.
“My dads brand-new Audi R8.”
“This one.”
“Ohkay. Can you take the cover off?” I ask and go to the key rack and pick the Audi keys. The sound of the car cover sound off and I unlock the car.
Tate opens the door and sits. I follow and start the engine.
“Your dad has nice car taste.” Tate compliments and examines the car.
“Had.”
“Has. Remember this, Just because someone is dead; Specifically family and friends, It doesn't mean they're gone. I know how it feels and it sucks.
“I know you're strong. If anything that special person, Is here.” Tate explains and rest her hand on my heart.
Wow. You're Beautiful, Smart, Athletic, and gives Good Advice. You're perfect.
“Can you repeat that?” Tate says, Giggling.
“Repeat what?”
“That I'm, Beautiful, Smart, Athletic, and gives Good Advice, Perfect. Nah, I'm none of those.” Tate says and sits back, before removing her hand, I grab it and pull her close.
“You are Beautiful, Smart, Athletic, and gives Good Advice.”
“You're perf--”
I stop as the garage door opens and Janessa stands there one hand on her popped out hip.
“What a whore, Already all over MY boyfriend.” She spats at Tate. She immediately gets out of my soft grip and runs out onto the street.
“Tate, Wait.” I get out the car and jog out to the street to see her at the corner, Jumping into a familiar dark grey RAM truck.
