The air tickled my noes as I walked down the street. I hands were stuffed into the pockets into my hoodie pockets and my feet were slowly but surely freezing. Yesterday wasn't that cold, but apparently mother nature decided to turn up the AC. I looked up and saw kids dragging their feet to the school building like a bunch of zombies. 'Yup, its Monday...' I thought, smirking to myself.
"Ruby!" I heard my name being called from behind me. I stopped and turned around and saw Quincy getting out of his car. "Oh, hey Quincy," I said walking over to him. "What's up?" He rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "I'm fine but you might not be in the next few minutes." I cocked my head to the side. "What do you mean? Am I gonna die or something?" I asked nonchalantly. I knew this had to be a joke, Quincy was always a joker, I think that's one of the many reasons why Lillie likes him so much.
Quincy looked behind me and went pale, which was weird considering the fact that he was of Samoan decent. I looked behind me only tom be met with an angry Lillie. "Oh, hey Lillie. How are you?" I asked smiling. I knew she was pissed at me but, quit frankly, I didn't care. "How am I? You should know how I am! I'm so hurt! You didn't talk to me about the dance or anything. I had to find out from a bunch of guys on the football team. The football team Ruby! And, you know how jealous Quincy can get!" she said with a pout. I swear she's a spoiled brat. "Lillie, I love you an everything, but I don't have to tell you everything as soon as it happens." I said moving past her and walking towards the school building. She followed me yelling, "Why not?! I'm your best friend!" I rolled my eyes. "Best friends don't treat their best friends like they're their mother!" I yelled back, trying to hold in my laughter. My friend, Lillie Thomson, was something else. And my feelings towards her varied. When she's being sweet and funny then it's all good. Other emotions are fine. But as soon as she stats acting like a brat, it makes me want to throw her in front of a bus.
I kept walking and ignoring Lillie before I was stopped by, you guessed it, Mr. Asshole himself. "Oh, hey Derick." I said with a fake happy voice. He just held out his hand, "Wheres the hoodie?" he asked coldly. I rolled my eyes and took off my bag and opened it. I held it out in front of me, "Just dig around for it. Make it quick though. I want to get inside." He didn't say anything, he just stuck his hand into my bag and moved around my stuff. After a few moments our eyes met, causing me to blush for some strange reason. "Why are you looking at me?" I asked trying to avoid his gaze. "Simple. You're wearing my hoodie."he said, pointing to the article of clothing. I looked at myself and realized that the hoodie wasn't mine. "Oh right......Can i wear it for one more day? I don't have any other coat to wear." I asked embarrassed. He looked at me like I was stupid. "Let me think about that.....no" he said folding his arms. I sighed and sat my bag down. "You know, this isn't what a gentlemen does." I said unzipping the hoodie. Derick chuckled, "Does it look like I give a shit? I just want my hoodie." I pouted and slipped the hoodie off. I handed him the hoodie and watched as he walked away. "Uh, you're welcome!" I yelled, holding my arms, trying to warm myself.
"Who the heck was that?" Lillie asked, glaring at Derick. Quincy looked over to me and chuckled, "Do you need my coat?" I shook my head shakily, "No...I'll be fine." Lillie made me face her, as if she was my mother scolding me. "You didn't answer me sweetheart. Who was that? I will gladly break his legs."she said coldly. I was tempted to tell her she could do what she wanted to do with him, but that would be wrong....right? "Don't do that, I don't want you to get suspended...or expelled. And that's the guy I was dancing with on Friday. Wait...weren't you looking?" I questioned, looking at her. She shook her head, "No. Me and Quincy were...uh....doing things..." she said with a blush. I sighed and face palmed. Quincy rubbed the back of his neck and laughed awkwardly. He was about to say something but I stopped him. "You don't have to explain it to me. I got it." I said before walking off to the front doors of the school.
