Chapter 4

After we got far enough away from the crowd, Liam and I decided on another place to eat. And before we went in I made sure to take my ring off.

The waitress took us to a table and we sat down in a huff and just stared at each other.

“I don’t know what we’re going to do Liam. We weren’t planning on telling management for a while.”

“You and Harry need to talk, it’s better that you tell them now then let them find out from the magazines.”

I agreed with him completely. We were in deep shit either way but maybe it wouldn’t be as bad if we told them ourselves like we had planned to in the first place.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do. Those damn paps have a picture of me handing you cigarettes. They’re gonna have a field day with that. And management will have my ass.”

“Why don’t me you and Harry all go in together to talk to them? I’m sure they’ll have a solution for this. They always do.”

Liam agreed and we both decided to go see them after we ate lunch. There goes my shopping with El.

We ordered our food and I pulled my phone out to text Harry.

Me:      Can you meet Liam and I at the office in about an hour?

Baby<3:           Why? I thought you were going shopping with El?

Me:      Change of plans. We had a run in with some paps and we need to clear things up with management, like now.

Baby<3:           What kind of run in? What happened?

Me:      Long story short, we have to tell them about the engagement, the baby, and Liams smoking. I’ll explain everything later.

Minutes went by and I got no response from him. I really hope I wasn’t going to have to face management without him.

Our food came a little while later and after we finished eating I called El and told her we would have to go shopping another day. Then Liam and I made our way to the office.

“Good afternoon Mr. Payne, Mrs. Wright”

“Hi Abby, is Ray in his office?” Liam replied to the young secretary.

“He’s in a meeting right now, but he should be out soon. I’ll give him a call and let him know you’re here. You can head up to the lounge for now if you’d like. I sent Harry up there a few minutes ago” she smiled sweetly and we both headed towards the elevator.

Harry was laying on one of the couches in the lounge when we walked in.

“So what happened?”

I sat down in one of the chairs across from the couch and Liam sat in the one next to me.

“Well hey to you to” I responded

“Emma, what happened?”

“I was handing her the rest of my cigarettes and some stupid pap got a picture of it.” Liam answered

“And I forgot to take my ring off before I went inside” I added

“You forgot to take it off? Emma do you have any idea how pissed off they’re going to be? And what the hell are people gonna think when they see you with cigarettes in your hand? Especially when they find out your pregnant”

He was upset, I could tell. And dealing with an upset Harry is hard work, even after five years.

“First off, they were going to find out about the engagement at some point. The only difference is now and later, they were gonna be pissed either way. Second, no one has to know that I was pregnant at the time the picture was taken. We have ways to cover it up”
