Chapter One: We're Like The Scooby Doo Gang
I walked through the front doors of the school and welcomed the hallways filled with students. As I walked through, a couple of them smiled at me to be polite but then returned to their conversations. I turned two corners and found my three best friends standing near my locker. They haven't noticed me as I walked closer, they're too busy looking at something on their phones. My friends are what keep me going everyday. They're my anchors that keep me on this world. They support and help me in any way they can, and I truly love them for that. Without them, I honestly don't know where I'd be. It scares me to even think about that, but somehow my mind always goes back to that thought.
"Bethy!" My friend, Travis, yelled. I rolled my eyes at the nickname he's given me over the years. Travis has been my friend since first grade, when I took him to the nurse after he had fallen and scraped his knee. He knows everything about me and I know everything about him.
"When are you going to stop using that nickname?" I groaned and put in the combination for my locker.
"Never. I will always use it, even when I make a toast at your wedding" he smirked. He knows I hate that name but he still uses it.
"You're still hooked on that idea?" During the last four years of highschool, I haven't had time for love. I've obviously had a boyfriend during those years but after major heartbreak, my opinion on love changed a bit. For majority of my highschool years, I was caught up with volleyball and friends. I didn't feel the need to add love into the picture, (especially after some stupid guy) at least not yet. Now it's senior year, and I have time on my hands as I've left volleyball to focus on this final year. My friends think it's time for me to find a boyfriend and trust me they're trying hard for that to happen.
"Beth, you're almost eighteen. Don't you think it's time to get a special someone?" My friend Charlotte, Lottie, commented.
"Lottie-"
"Ah no excuse, you quit volleyball correct?" I nodded. "Perfect, more time to find a boyfriend!"
I let out a sigh, "Even if I did want to have one, it wouldn't be easy. I'm not exactly girlfriend material." I am not anything special, I'm just plain old Bethany. I don't believe I'm bad looking, I believe everyone is good looking in their own way, but I wouldn't consider myself as drop dead gorgeous. My blue eyes are bright as heck and my wavy light brown hair sits in the middle of my chest.
"Are you kidding? You're gorgeous" My other friend, Michelle, said.
"I would kill to have blue eyes like you. And you're thin and tall and most certainly beautiful. Aren't you like 5'8"?" She added. She has hazel eyes with chestnut brown hair. Lottie has natural, gorgeous blonde hair with light blue eyes. Travis has black hair with dark brown eyes.
I rolled my eyes, "I'm 5'6 don't get ahead of yourself there." By being slightly taller than both Michelle and Lottie, just by two inches may I add, they make it seem as if I'm a whole foot taller. I'm definitely no where near Travis' height, he is around the six foot area (as most of the guys in the school are).
"Whatever, but this year is the year you are going to earn a boyfriend. Case closed" Lottie said.
I shook my head and grabbed a book out of my locker, "Alright Lottie, whatever you say." I shut my locker closed and turned around to see Ryan, Michelle's boyfriend, walking towards us. I say us but I mean Michelle. They greeted each other with a kiss and hug. They've been together since the end of junior year. Ryan is into baseball, in fact he's captain. Michelle though, she's more into art and photography. Charlotte is into drama and Travis, well he doesn't fit into any category. Travis is just Travis. I on the other hand am no where near drama or art, besides music. I have always been into crime investigation and things dealing with catching bad guys. My dad used to be a cop and he'd always bring home some work and he'd let me help. Photography is interesting but it doesn't really catch my attention, it sure did catch Michelle's though. She got into it because of my aunt, she works with photography and magazines and that sort of stuff so Michelle's inspiration began there. When we were younger and had sleepovers, we would have little photo shoots. That tradition still lives; everytime we have an overnight hangout, we have a photo shoot.
