Chapter Eleven: Pets, Fights & Jealousy

I sprayed away the stench of sweat with some perfume and deodorant. Today was one of the hottest days so far into the year and not to mention combining a sport with it, well it sucks. I shouldn't complain as we were only outside for a couple minutes and then I took the girls inside the gym for the rest of practice. Although, not everyone else that's involved in a sport was able to go inside. Practice went really well and I felt somewhat of the stress lift off my shoulders. The heavy weight of it was still there though, which isn't a very pleasing feeling.

"Are you sure you still want me inside your house?" I asked Grayson, referring to the sweaty and possibly smelling state of my body, once the car had stopped in front of the building.

"I can't smell anything" he said, leaning against my car door.

"That's such a lie." I grabbed my backpack from the passenger seat and slung it over.

"Its actually not and there's no possible way you could smell worse than Logan," he said, talking about his brother. Like I, well not even close considering Reece isn't technically my older brother, Grayson has an older brother. Logan, the oldest of the May siblings, is only a year older than Reece I believe. In the time that Grayson and I became close, I met him along with his sister. And very quickly I felt close to them, well at least to his sister. Logan was kind of cold and didn't really communicate. In fact, there were very rare times that Logan and I would get along and act like close friends. But besides those rare times, he kept his distance from me and only really acknowledged me just to be polite. Both Grayson and his sister, Kelsey, had told me that it's not me but rather that he's just like that and it takes him a while to warm up to people. I believed that, as I'm not one to think it's my fault or have done something to make people just not like me.

"Has he been home?" I asked Grayson and he twisted the knob of the front door.

"He was here a few days ago but he left pretty quick," he explained shutting the door and kindly taking my backpack from me and tossing it onto the couch. Noise came from the kitchen and Grayson led the way to see what was going on. We found his sister digging through the cupboards while holding something in her arms.

"Kelsey what are you doing?" Grayson asked her and she turned around. Kelsey was just three years younger than us, making her a freshman at our high school. As Kelsey turned around, I'm able to clearly see what she was holding. And believe me when I say that I almost squealed from cuteness, because it's true.

She was holding a small puppy in her arms. The cutest puppy I've ever seen, may I add.

"I'm looking for some peanut butter," she said and handed the dog over to Grayson. "Hey Beth, I didn't know you were coming over."

"Well I'm here, I didn't know you guys had a dog" I said, looking at the small animal that was licking Grayson's face. He saw the adoration in my face and asked, "Do you want to hold her?"

I wanted to squeal and nod my head as if I were mental, but instead I asked, "Can I?" He placed the animal in my arms and gave her a stroke.

"She's so cute, what's her name?" I asked, staring at the puppy as it sniffed me.

"Coco."

I smiled at the adorable puppy that looked back up at me and I suddenly felt my stress disappear. Her tail wagged and she sniffed me, trying to get to know me as I was stroking her white fur.

"She's so tiny and cute" I said, looking up at Kelsey. She smiled at me and continued searching for peanut butter in the cupboards. I then looked at Grayson who was staring at me with happiness.
