As the sun set on the city, the sounds of the city that never stops the party could be heard even at their secluded compound in the bayou. Damon shrugged on his black victorian style coat and adjusted his rings as he and Connor walked down the hall that looked out over the courtyard of the compound.

"What about Kora?" Connor asked as pulled on his leather jacket.

"I'll need you to stay here and get her something to eat when she wakes up." Damon answered as he jogged down the stairs. "Diane and I can oversee the meeting. You worry about the girl tonight."

"Yes master." Connor said, tucking his cellphone in his back pocket. "You will call if you need me?"

"Precisely." Damon said as he stepped out into the center of the courtyard. He turned and placed a hand on Connor's shoulder. "If she wakes up before I get home tonight, explain to her where she is and give her the same choice I gave you. Alright?"

"I can do that." Connor said with a smile. "I take that to mean you aren't taking off again any time soon?"

"I plan to stay until the year's up. Unless the council requests a meeting sooner." Damon said with a smile. "How're you doing with your pyromancy control?"

"I have it under control." Connor said shrugging.

"Your headboard says different." Damon chuckled. "But we can fix that when I get home."

"Alright." Connor chuckled. "Kora's strong, she just doesn't know the extent of her strength. I felt it back there, when she lost her temper."

"I felt it too." Damon said, nodding. "When I return, I will assess what I can teach her. But I must be off." He smiled and turned his hand, disappearing into the night sky.

Connor set up the punching bag and a few targets as he waited. He taped his hands and adjusted the rings on his hands, preparing to get some training in. It was right as he readied himself to train, that he heard Kora's breathing change in the first bedroom off the balcony of the courtyard on the second floor. The blond sighed as he jogged up the stairs. When he got into the room Kora was sitting up in her bed, looking around the room. She raised an eyebrow when she saw Connor enter.

"Where am I?" she asked, she looked out the glass doors that led to her balcony.

"You are at the Monroe Compound." Connor said with a kind smile as he sat in a chair across from the bed. "Diane asked my master to take you in. Partly because your coven leader is a pompous ass."

"That's an understatement" Kora laughed. "Who knocked me out?"

"You didn't give me much of a choice." Connor chuckled. "You were stronger than we expected, so a simple shield spell wouldn't work as well as putting you to sleep for a few hours."

"Why didn't you let me just kill him?" Kora asked, leaning back against the headboard of the bed.

"That's Damon's job." Connor replied with a shrug. "He was charged with defending the peace in this city by his father. If you were to kill an elder, we could not have protected you from not only the law of the Faction, but the vengeance of your coven."

"I'm guessing you're the talker of the two of you." Kora said jokingly.

"And he is the powerhouse." Connor smiled. "I'm not as strong as he is, at least not yet."

"What about Diane?" Kora said, cocking an eyebrow. "She seems to have you two in her pocket."

"She took us into her coven. Nothing is more important to Diane and Damon than loyalty." Connor said simply. "She takes in orphan witches and other spellcasters. Most of us in the coven are orphans."
"I know." Kora sighed, looking down. "You went to school with my sister Norah."
