"Luke is back?!"
I nodded to Annabeth's question. I had her on FaceTime on Yugi's iPad, and I could see the look of deep horror when I told her what I saw yesterday. I managed to get healed from my duel against Luke and Keith, who just vanished into nowhere after the duel. Whatever power that was that caused me pain with every attack, it was bad - it was like feeling a knife shard running up my spine, and let me tell ya': it freaking hurt like Hades.
Annabeth leaned back on her chair in the video call. "How is that possible?"
I told her what Luke told me - how the gods lied to us about where his soul was at the moment; how he lived through Tartarus; his deal with the lord of the pit and his alliance with his new master. As soon as I finished, Annabeth had a very angry look on her face.
"How could they lie to us?" she fumed. "They assured us that he would be placed in Elysium! How could they do that to him?"
"Luke said that the gods only saw the bad in him," I told them, my own annoyance at the gods spiking. "So, rather than give him a second chance, they decided not to give it him and send him to hell. And now because of it he's seriously pissed off with me. Why though, I have no idea. All he said was that Tartarus wanted to punish me for what me, you and the rest of the Seven did to Gaia."
Annabeth sighed, burying her head in one hand. "If Luke is back, and is actively seeking revenge on you, then you really need to be careful."
I gave her a lopsided grin. "Me? Being careful? When has that ever worked when it came down to Luke?"
Annabeth actually chuckled at that. "Anyhow, I try and see if I can get to Domino City as soon as I can. By the sounds of it, you're gonna need a lot of help."
I frowned. "Are you sure? With Luke on the loose, there's no telling what he might do. Plus, you know what he was like in the Titan War: he was very manipulative towards you. He's always tricked you into doing what he wants."
Annabeth nodded. "I know. But I don't want my husband dealing with this trouble on his own. If you're going through a problem then me, you and Zoe are going through it together. As a family."
I hesitated, but I eventually gave up after hearing her say that. That's the thing about Annabeth - she always knows what's right. "Alright. Let me know when you arrive, I'll come and pick you up."
"Alright. Now take care of yourself, Seaweed Brain," she said. "Oh, and if you see Luke..."
She gave me a knowing look. "...kick his ass." The video call ended, leaving me sitting at the coffee table in the silence.
"Oh, I will," I softly said, clenching my fist. "Don't you worry about that, Wise Girl."
============="...and you managed to beat this guy?" Joey finished his question, chomping away at his slice of pizza.
I nodded. I had just finished explaining who Luke was and what he caused all those years ago in Manhattan. At some point, Tristan (Joeys childhood friend with dark brown hair, dark brown eyes and was wearing what looked like a bikers uniform) asked questions about why he would be a problem.
"You've defeated him before," he pointed out. "Can't you just beat him again?"
I shrugged and shook my head, grabbing another slice of pizza. "That's the thing. He hosted the spirit of Kronos last time and he was nearly impossible to beat as it was. With him working for Tartarus and this unknown master of his, I don't know what to think."
"By the sounds of everything you've told us," Teá said slowly, picking at the chips and salsa in front of her, "it's really personal to you and Annabeth."
