I pulled up to my usual parking spot at the shelter and cut the engine off. I grabbed my keys and phone and made my way in. As I was walking in, I saw a very familiar car outside. I couldn't help but shake my head and grin. I walked in the shelter and there he was, standing at the counter.
"Hey Tyler." I smiled and he turned around.
"Hey." He smiled.
"What are you doing here?" I asked. I walked behind the counter and saw Kim was filling out a paper for Tyler.
"Well the funny thing is, there has been this kitten hanging around the neighborhood. It had a limp so my mom asked me to get it and bring it in." He said. I could feel his eyes on me the whole time as I put my stuff under the counter, which was just my jacket.
"Where's the kitten?" I asked.
"In checkup. I have to finish this paper. You can stay out here with gentleman, right? " Kim asked, but her eyes showed 'It's obvious you two have something together, get married'.
"Sure." I smiled and Kim left, leaving me and Tyler.
"So are you a dog or cat person?" I asked.
"Uh, I've been around cats my whole life so probably cats." He smiled.
"I use to have a cat, but it was killed." I admitted.
"I'm sorry." Tyler said sympathetically.
"It's all cool, it happened when I was 14." I smiled. I looked up at Tyler and immediately examined his eyes. His green eyes showed happiness and joy.
"Would you like to see the animals?" I asked.
"Absolutely." He smiled even wider. I opened the gate from the counter and had him follow me. We walked down the hall a little then I opened the door. When the door opened, all of the animals suddenly got happy.
"They get a little anxious around new people." I informed Tyler.
"It's okay." He smiled. I could feel my heart pounding out of my chest. I couldn't believe I was seriously falling for him, well, I think I was.
"Hey guys." Tyler stopped at a pin of Dalmatian puppies. They all began yapping and wagging their tails.
"Wanna play with them?" I asked.
"Can I?" He asked.
"Yeah." I smiled and slowly opened the gate. All of the puppies poured out and attack our feet. Tyler picked one up and held him up.
"Hi there little buddy." He smiled and pettrd the puppy. The puppy yapped with joy and licked Tyler's finger. "He's adorable." Tyler smiled.
"Yea, Dalmatians are my favorite type of dog." I said as I petted some of the puppies. Tyler kept playing with the one and I couldn't help but stare, it was adorable.
"I can see why." Tyler smiled at me and I felt myself blush. We played with the puppies for a while then the front desk phone rang.
"I got it!" Kim yelled.
"I think we better put the puppies back now." I sighed. All of the puppies whined as Tyler and I put them back in their pin.
"I can see why you like to volunteer here." Tyler said as I shut the pin.
"There's bad time's though." I admitted as I locked the pin door.
"What do you mean?" He asked with a concern face.
"Well, there are times when we have to put the animals down or we get abused animals. It's terrible." I frowned. I looked at Tyler and saw his jaw tighten. He was mad. "But I want to thank you, " I touched his arm and he immediately locked his eyes with mine.
"For what?" He asked.
"For bringing that kitten in. Most people would have left it, but you didn't. Thank you." I smiled and let go and made our way back to the desk.
"Uh, you're welcome." Tyler smiled as he followed. I opened the desk door for him as he made his way out.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Lea." He smiled and waved.
"Later, Tyler." and out the door he went.
"Someone's got herself a man." Kim cheered.
I didn't deny it but I just shook my head and blushed.
"Don't you have paper's to be doing?" I joked with Kim.
