Chapter 24: The Hospital

One time a week, I usually come here and play with the kids that are sick. Some of them have cancer and some have very bad illnesses. It breaks my heart to see them all like that. Especially Ellie.

I went to the desk and asked if Ellie was her or visiting home home they said she was here. I went to her room and knocked on the door.

"Ellie. Sweetie, are you awake?" I asked and peeked my head inside.

"Yeah." she said just above a whisper.

"I have a guest. Can I bring him in?" I asked her.

"Yeah." she said.

Justin and I walked in and he went and say down on a chair. I sat on the end of the bed.

"Ellie, this is my boyfriend Justin. Justin, this is Ellie. I like to think of her as my daughter. She's 7. Right Ellie?" I asked and kissed her cheek. I seen Justin smile.

"Yeah. What are you doing here?" She asked.

"I'm here to see you silly." I giggled and layed down next to her. She cuddled into my side.

"How are you today?" I asked Ellie.

"I'm really tired. And I've been throwing up a lot today. They can't get ahold of my mom. So they can't give me medicine." She said and layed back down.

"Ill be right back, okay? Justin can you please come with me?" I asked as I stood up.

Me and Justin walked to the front station.

"Is there any reason that Ellie is not getting any medication?" I asked. I'm really upset. They know her condition.

"Her mother is not answering our phone calls so we can't give it to her. I'm sorry Kennedie." The nurse, Sandy said.

"Is there any other way she can get it?" I asked putting my head in my hands. Justin started running my back.

"Someone 18 or over can sign this to okay that we give it to her." She said and slid me a piece of paper.

"But I'm not 18. I am in 3 days." I sighed. I gave her the paper back.

"Wait, I'm 18. I can do it." Justin said, taking it back.

"Really?" I asked. He always knows how to fix things.

"Yeah, can I have a pen?" Justin said, then took the pen from Sandy.

"Thank you Jay." I said and kissed him.

We walked back to Ellies room and she was about to falling asleep.

"Honey, the doctors are coming to give you medicine, okay?" I asked and layed down with her again.

"Did they get ahold of mom?" she asked, with hope in her eyes.

"No, I'm sorry. I took care of it though." I said and kissed her head.

The doctor came in and gave her her medicine. She stopped throwing up right away and was more tired.

"You can go to sleep. We will stay here for a little bit. Is that okay Jay?" I asked and looked at him.

"Yeah." He said. He's been staring at me for the past 20 minutes with admiration in his eyes.

Ellie fell asleep and I told Justin to take a picture of us on his phone and then send it to me.

I slowly got up and kissed Ellie on her forehead and Justin and I left.
