Chapter Twenty-Three

What's New?

"Alaric Saltzman?" I repeated. They looked at the files and nodded.

"He's your birth father." They paused. "Ellie, you were adopted."

"Yea, I know that." I said looking at Damon then back to Sheriff Forbes. "What about Scott?"

"If Alaric let's he could stay with him, also."

"What's the need? They can stay at my house. I could watch them. I'm old enough." Damon said joining in on the conversation.

"I'm sorry, Damon. But if there's is another family member on the list, that's who we have to go with." Sheriff Forbes said to Damon. "You two have until 1:30pm tomorrow to have your stuff packed."

"So, Alaric doesn't know about this yet?" Scott asked.

"We're gonna tell him right after we're done talking to you two." Ms. Kristen said.

I sighed as they said bye and left. I felt tears in my eyes. Damon wrapped his arms around me. Can anything get worse?

Damon pulled away and looked into my eyes. "There's somethings I need to tell you since you haven't been talking to anyone lately."

"What is it?" I asked closing the door behind him as he walked into our house.

"I gave Caroline my blood. She wasn't doing good after the accident."

"Is she better now?" I asked.

"She should be. I haven't checked on her yet. The other thing is..." He paused. "Katherine's back."

My eyes widened. "She's back? As in back in Mystic Falls?"

Damon nodded.

Scott and I walked into the Lockwood house. Mayor Lockwood died the night of Founders Day, mistaken of being a vampire. So now, they invited the town to their house.

"We're not gonna be long." I told Scott when we walked in.

"Whatever." He said walking off into a different direction.

"Ellie." I heard someone say. I turned to look.

"Sheriff Forbes."

"Good news." She said walking towards me. "Alaric said he'll watch you and Scott. You two don't need to pack because he's gonna be moving in with you guys."

"Oh. Thank you for telling me." I said. She nodded and walked off. I saw Elena and Bonnie talking and I walked up to them.

"Hey, Ellie." Bonnie said and Elena smiled. I smiled back.

"We're just talking about how bad Damon is." Elena said. My smile faded. "Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry, I totally forgot you guys are together."

"Whatever, Elena." I turned around and walked away.

"Ellie, wait." I heard Bonnie say but I kept on walking.

I saw Stefan and we were talking when doors flew opened. We walked up to the doors. I saw Elena holding up Bonnie against the wall by her neck. Or so I thought it was Elena.

"Katherine." Stefan said.

"Stefan. Ellie." She said with a smile.

"Leave her alone."

"Okay." Katherine forcefully let go of Bonnie and walked passed me and Stefan followed her.

Bonnie turned around to look at me. "Are you okay?" I asked. She nodded.

"Ellie, I wasn't talking bad about Damon. He just-"

I cut Bonnie off. "Bonnie, it's fine really. I already know you guys don't like him." I said walking off.

I turned a corner and saw Damon and Elena talking. Knowing it's Elena because I just saw Katherine leave with Stefan.

"Hey, Ellie." She said walking up to me and wrapping her arms around me. "I'm so sorry about what happened to your dad." I just smiled at her. "Do you know where Stefan is?"

"He went off with... Katherine." Damon and Elena's eyes widened.

"She's here?" Damon asked walking closer to us. I nodded.

Damon, Elena, and I went to go find Stefan and Katherine. When we found him, Stefan had stabbed him with a garden stick. Elena got napkins and started to clean up his blood.

"We tried to track her, but she's gone." Damon said walking to us. He noticed Stefan's shirt up, "Ooh, cover up, Fabio." He said closing his eyes and turning his head. "We got a crazy ex on the loose. Better watch out, looks like Katherine's trying to steal your guy." Damon said to Elena.

"Katherine's trying to turn Ellie against you." Stefan said to Damon.

"How do you know that?" I asked.

"I could tell the way she was talking about you two."

"That's not going to happen." I sighed and looked at Damon. "I should go look for Scott." I said walking away and Elena followed.

Scott and I had gotten home and changed into comfier clothes and sat down to watch shows. The doorbell rang. I got up and opened the door. At the door was Alaric with two suitcases.

"Hey." He sighed.

"Hi. Come in." I said and moved to the side so he could come in. Scott came to the door. "Scott this is Alaric. Alaric, Scott." I said introducing them. They shook hands. "I'll take your bags to your room. Welcome to what's left of the Thompson family. Make yourself at home." I smiled.

"Thank you." He smiled back.

I grabbed his bags and took them upstairs into the guest bedroom. I closed the door to the room when I walked out and looked to the master bedroom. I haven't been in there since my dad died. I slowly walked into the room. I looked around. The bed was make and there were a few boxes on the floor. Scott must have packed some of his stuff up. I started to walk up to one box but stopped when I felt a pain in my head. I groaned and kneeled on the ground. The pain was hurting more as voices started to stay something I couldn't make out. I screamed, really loud. Alaric and Scott came running into the room and kneeled next to me.

"Ellie, what's wrong?" Scott asked.

"Caroline." I said with tears running down my face. "Caroline's dead."

Sorry that this was a short chapter and that I took too long to update. But, more chapters are coming. I would also like to say that you guys should really watch 13 Reasons why. It's a book that is now a Netflix show about a girl named Hannah who kills herself and leaves 7 tapes with 13 people on the tapes. The 13 people are all the reasons to why she killed herself. I read the book last year and fell in love with it and I hope you guys do too.
