Chapter Twenty

Mysterious House Owner

"It's so hard to see him like this." Elena said looking through the door at Stefan. He's locked up in the Salvatore basement because he can't control his blood thirst.

"You're the one who locked him up." Damon said leaning against the wall.

"You helped." Elena said.

"I couldn't have him running around chewing on people while the town is looking for vampires, now, could I?"

"It had nothing to do with you actually caring about him." Elena said giving him a glare.

"Your thing, not mine." Damon said walking away and I followed him.

When we got into the large room Damon picked up something Pearl gave to him. She gave him something that belonged to Johnathan Gilbert.

"Did you ever figure out what that was?" I asked him.

"Nope. Whatever it is, it doesn't work." He answered.

"Pearl didn't say anything else about it?" I asked again.

"She thought she was stealing his vampire compass, but it was a pocket watch." He said examining it. "That Johnathan Gilbert was a crazy scientist. Have you spoken to your uncle lately?" Damon asked Elena, changing the topic, when she walked in the room.

"I've been avoiding him, actually. That, and i've been here most nights."

"So, you'll be here again tonight?" He asked.

"Is that a problem?"

"Yes. You're a complete nuisance."

Elena and I both rolled our eyes. "See you later." She said walking out the door. He looked at me.

"Bye, Damon" I said walking off, following Elena for school.

Even if my dad said that I can't be near Damon, I still am. I don't care what he says anymore. He has been keeping secrets and lying to me my whole life. Why can't I do the same by being with Damon?

After school, Elena asked me if I could stay with her at the Salvatore house while she watches Stefan. I said I would. I'd do anything to keep myself busy so I won't have to go home and face my dad. So, right now she's in the basement by him while I am upstairs looking at the fire. I heard footsteps from behind me. I turned around and saw Damon. I smiled at him.

"You're gonna be in so much trouble if your dad finds out about us." He said walking close to me.

"Then let's hope he doesn't find out." He placed a kiss on my lips.

He pulled away, "are you and Elena gonna be okay here if I run out?" He asked putting his hand on my lower back. "I have to go to an errand with the teacher."

"The teacher? Alaric?" I asked and he nodded. "Well, can I come with you guys?" I asked looking at him putting on his jacket. Being here with Elena and having her stay with Stefan is making me bored. He looked at me for a few seconds.

"Fine." I quickly told Elena that I was going and I told her to be careful with Stefan. After that, Damon and I left.

After about an hour of driving we finally arrived to a house. "What are we looking for?" I asked and they turned around to look at me in the backseat.

"You didn't tell her?" Alaric asked Damon and he shook his head. "Why did you come if you didn't even know where we are going?" Alaric asked me.

"I got bored just sitting there while Elena was with Stefan."
