"Are you okay?" Erika asked.
Serenity was staring at the back of her hand, where the tree-shaped mark had been burned. Erika walked over to Serenity's bed and Serenity quickly slipped her hand under her covers.
"Hmph, whatever," said Erika, "let's just go down to breakfast."
"Right, yeah." Serenity replied, dazed.
"Oh, happy birthday, by the way." Erika said.
"It's my birthday? Oh, right, I completely forgot."
"Yeah, May 13th. You're actually turning thirteen right?"
"Thirteen," Serenity murmured, more to herself than Erika "just like in my dream."
"Are you sure you're okay Sera?" Erika asked again.
"I said I was fine Erika!" Serenity shouted. A gust of wind blew into the orphanage and thunder boomed outside. Erika gave her a startled look, laced with concern. "I'm sorry Erika; I don't know where that came from."
"It's alright Sera, let's just go down to breakfast."
Serenity nodded. In truth, she really wasn't fine. Her head was spinning and she felt queasy.
"I think I just need some water." She said.
"Alright, come on."
The two girls walked into the cafeteria. Erika got Serenity a glass of water then turned away to talk to some her other friends. Serenity just stared at the water, reluctant to drink it, wishing she could just disappear from sight and be alone for a while. Then, all of a sudden, the water rose right out of the glass, levitating directly in front of Serenity.
"What the hell..." Serenity whispered.
She then forced the water down with her palms and quickly drained the glass so no one would see.
"What in the world was that?" Serenity whispered to herself.
The whole day, strange oddities continued to occur to Serenity. Joey Connors' hair caught on fire when Serenity was angry at him for making fun of her. She touched a broken tree limb and it immediately mended itself with a soft, sparkling, golden light. She brushed her hand across the bud of a flower, and it blossomed into a beautiful red rose, at an unnatural rate.
"What's happening to me?"
Then she decided to go into the back of the orphanage, for that was she felt most at home, for some reason. She would walk the forest and feel the soft leaves, and breath in the fresh woodland air...
When she got back to the orphanage it was dusk.
She cursed, "I'm gonna be late!"
She ran inside. Ms. Carter was waiting for her. "It's about time you got back!" she snapped, "Where were you!"
"I was taking a walk in the woods." Serenity replied, panting slightly.
"Go straight up to bed, now!" Ms. Carter yelled.
Serenity went upstairs and sat on her bed, Erika already sleeping in her own. Serenity slowly drifted off to sleep and dreamed of roses blooming in the night. Two hours later, she awoke to the sound of explosions.

Well, guys, there's chapter two done! I apologize for leaving it off at a cliff-hanger. (I'm not sorry!) I'm also sorry that it was so short. The next chapter in going to be pretty short as well, but chapter four is definitely going to be longer! Today's song is Vagrant by Feint (ft. Veela). I hope you all enjoyed and don't forget to comment and vote, and I will try to get back to as many of you as I can! Thanks for reading, and stay awesome!
