I wake up at 4 am and see a text from Keith. It read, "Don't forget, we have the big game today."
Why is he awake at 4am? Whatever, I'm just gonna go to bed. I'll respond in the morning. I wake up at 6am, I text Keith back, and head to school. All day I couldn't stop thinking about the game against the Berkshire Beavers. I tossed and turned almost all night due to nerves, like always.
Something weird happened at lunch.. It was almost like everyone's eyes were focused on Keith and I. When people walked passed our table, they just stared.. What's going on?
Honestly, that's the least of my worries right now, though.
That kiss.. between Keith and I. What does that mean? Why did he do it? Does he feel that way about me? My thoughts raced constantly as I ate.Keith turned to me and tilted his head. "What's on your mind?" He asked.
I widened my eyes, thinking of an answer," Oh, um, nothing." I half smile.
"I don't believe you for some reason.." He chuckled at me.
"It's just, what happened.. last practice." I admit, my face turning red almost immediately.
"Oh..." His eyes widened. Before he could explain anything, lunch ended and we had to go to third block.
Will we ever discuss this?
I walk to my next class and Ryan from the team approaches me.
"Hey!" He says, tapping my arm.
"Oh hi!" I replied, nicely.
"So is it true?" He asked very intensely.
"Huh? What do you mean?" I stopped walked and asked.
But before I could get an answer I arrived in class and he didn't have time to elaborate.
I sit down and people glance over at me, making me nervous with every look. Why do I get so anxious, why now?
The class soon ends and I carry on with my day. Then, practice happens.
I walk into the gym and see Keith, Dylan, and Pierce already stretching.
"H-Hey guys." I greet, nervously waving my hand.
"Hey, Andrew." Dylan smiles, passing me the ball. I dribble it for a few seconds, pass it to Pierce, then he shoots it right in. Soon enough, the rest of the team comes in and we set up for scrimmage.
"Okay...Keith, go on my team. Andrew, go on Sean's team." Pierce says to us.
"Uh..okay.." I kind of get uncomfortable.
"Is there a problem?" Pierce asks, very rudely.
"Well, no...but--" I try to explain myself before being interrupted.
"Just play, okay?" Pierce rolls his eyes and continues to pick teams. At this point, I am extremely confused as to why he's so angry.
We begin to start the scrimmage game. Pierce passes the ball to me and I dribble it over, Keith jumps in front of me and I try to throw it over but don't. Keith catches it and makes a point.
"Really?" Vincent huffs.
"Sorry! I tried to shoot it over him." I try to explain.
"Yeah sure. We all know you didn't even try to make it over Keith. Wouldn't want to upset your 'friend', right?" Pierce says sarcastically.
"What're you even talking about, Pierce." Keith stands up for me.
"Sean saw everything. We know you're much more than friends." Neil crosses his arms. Now, I have no words.
"What? What'd he see?" I ask, shaking a bit.
"You two were outside the gym and..you kissed!" Sean explains. "Are you dating?" He asks.
"Um..." I turn to Keith as I have literally no answer that as I am wondering it myself.
"A death happened in this very school that day, yet all of you are only worried about whether or not Andrew and I are a couple? That's just...pathetic..and also, I'm not gonna say that rumor is even true...but I also won't deny it." Keith scolds the team, angrily.
The whole group of boys fell silent for a minute, we just continued to play like the conversation never happened. That must've been why the entire school stared at Keith and I all day..
I just want to know...
