Chapter Twelve: Back to Square One
“What the fuck! Chrysler!” I was brought back to reality the moment she pulled away and slapped me across the face.
I didn’t dare to say anything.
Man! How could I be so stupid?
I started the engine again and drove ahead without giving her an explanation.
The whole drive was a whole lot of mixed up expressions that spelled 'Awkward'. Only the sound of horns honking, cars speeding and some faint noise out on the streets were heard.
Fortunately, we arrived on the boat without managing to strain ourselves.
Though, not a word has been made.
Lauren was off typing something on her Ipad while I, myself went to get some ocean breeze to avoid the tension that had been swirling on the air between Lauren and I.
The ocean was perfect. Not a single island was in sight or even a sailing ship. Only the sound of waves against the boat had been heard.
It made me calm
If only people flow by like waves, then the world might turn out to be serene; but then again waves can sometimes turn to tsunamis.
Just like Lauren
She’s Just the Girl that could be depicted as a wave. There’s always that whole part of her wherein she turns out to be like a tsunami but then there’s always the contrasting part of going with the flow of events.
Just like the waves. She’s turns out to be…
Mystifying
“Hey” an approachable but sad tone manage to cut my reverie.
I look up to see Lauren who was right beside me staring ahead the broad calm ocean.
“Hey” I manage to give her a weak smile. She closed her eyes and sighed deeply, more like a sigh of contentment and eased-up satisfactory before glancing back at the ocean then directly to me.
That made me skip a beat.
All she just did was looking at me with a weak smile but then again it made my heart rate burst inn with a completely knew feeling that I, myself couldn’t fathom the sensation.
What have you done to me, Lauren?
“The ocean is a trouble-free asylum. It can always calm you down and settle doubts in your thoughts” she said looking ahead.
“Yeah, it does” I said in a faint smile.
We stood there in silence. All we did was just look ahead and hear nothing but waves crashing with each other.
Maybe I should start afresh with her but I don’t know if she could ever let me in. So instead of the formal apologies and suggestion, I started of with what I hadn’t told anyone else before.
“Have you ever wondered why a player does what he does?” I asked sincerely.
She looked at me with furrowed eyebrows gesturing for me to continue.
“It is said that people who are heartless once cared too much” I sighed heavily.
“It’s funny to hear it from a guy who’s actually one” she said in a matter-of-fact tone.
“Unbelievable, right? But it sure is true” I said with a light chuckle.
“I know. I have my own perspective of life its self” she said with a sad smile.
