I remember the first time we met, I can still picture it, stood here. I always thought I was different, until I met her. Raven Myers was the most peculiar girl I have ever met. She's one of those people that after one look, you would know to stay out of the way, however, I was desperate for friends, any friend would do. That's why I went over to her, on that Wednesday lunch. She was sat in her usual spot, on the third branch up, in the tree next to the tall fence. Her short black hair was waving in the wind, with her long skeleton legs dangling down over the branch as her back rested against the trunk of the tree. "Can I join you?" I asked, rather desperate sounding I admit, yet she just looked down from her black book (of which I could not see the title of) and gave me a rather confused blank look. "If that's ok." I added after minutes of awkward, silent staring.
"Why?" Raven finally asked.
"Well, I just... well, you look... the branch, it... I just want somewhere to sit and someone to sit with, all the others they, well they just scare me a bit"
"Why?"
"Pardon?"
"Why me? Do I not scare you?"
At this question I instantly froze. I cold feel my blood suddenly rush into my face. I didn't know what to say. "Because you are always on your own, you mustn't be like the others." When I realised what I had just said I let out a flustered puff and turned my back to walk away.
"Do you like to read?" I hear from the tree.
I momentarily turn around and look at her, "Yes, actually, although you wouldn't have heard of any of the books that I've read. Most people don't like them, so I don't tend to read them in public."
"What kind are they?" she demanded.
"Murder." I whispered.
"Murder?" she repeated.
"Yes!" I exclaimed impolitely.
"What's your favourite?"
"What?" All politeness had left me at this moment for I did get quite emotional in situations like this.
"Your favourite murder book." She uttered.
"J.Green and the Diamond Mystery, I read it a lot!"
She then started to take the cover off the book she was reading, only to reveal the sapphire cover of the book I had just described. I look at the book in astonishment. This girl that I thought was so different to myself, might just be like me in many ways.
"Come and sit wit me." She proposed, as she held her hand out to me. Without hesitation, I climbed up onto the first branch, then took hold of her cold, pale hand and hauled myself up to the third.
"I'm Patience Samson, nice to meet you!" I offer her my hand and smile the cheesiest smile in human history. Again, this was a very awkward situation between us but neither of us did anything about it.
"Brilliant" She said grasping my hand, "I'm Raven Myers, although you probably know my name because of the rumours."
"Rumours?"
"You know, don't pretend you haven't heard!"
"Heard what?" I stare at Raven with a dazed look.
"You really are isolated aren't you!"
"I beg your pardon, you don't know anything about me! You have no right to be making Presumptions like that!"
"I know that you never really talk to people or get out but you want to change that, that's why you are here right now instead of sitting in that stupid cleaners cupboard eating your lunch. You don't go outside much and prefer the company of cats to that of other people so therefore you spend most of your time reading fanfiction in bed with your cat. Your parents think that you are antisocial so told you to make a friend so here you are trying to make an impression to do so. You don't like normal people though because you feel as though they don't understand you, you came to me because I was alone and different." At this comment, I felt sick to the stomach. Was this girl my personal stalker? How did she know all these things about me? I was so scared and confused at the same time. It felt like an awful dream, like I was being sucked up into some kind of wormhole, it didn't feel right, or real, however, it was.
