I sat on my bed, my hands and covers stained with the blood that dripped from my nose. I attempted to stop the bleeding by pinching the bridge of my nose, but it only made me cry out in pain and bleed more. My dad had never gone so far, my left shoulder blade ached numbly when I moved it and my spine sent sharp pains up my back, he had never gone so far. I looked in my mirror that hung loosely on the wall, however the reflection wasn't me, I was strong, but the figure I saw in the mirror was broken, damaged and weak. This wasn't me, I wouldn't let it be me. I fell to my knees and rested my face into my hands, sobbing uncontrollably. This couldn't go on. I led down on the old carpet that covered the majority of the rotting wooden floorboards, I was weak and momentarily slipped into a dreamless sleep.

A week passed and things hadn't got any better, my dad just kept coming back, kept beating me, every time the results got slightly worse until I had a broken arm. Raven called me everyday but I never answered my phone, this was my problem, not hers. I was drifting to sleep on the Saturday night when I heard my window open and felt the draft that followed, cold wisps of air brushing over my face. I was tired and hungry, I didn't care if there was something in my room, if the windows were open, I didn't care what happened to me, nothing could be worse than this hell I was living in.

I heard someone say my name, I didn't take any notice but they repeated it. "Patience? Are you ok?" I was rolled over onto my back as I looked up at the figure. She studied my face and my injuries before speaking again "Oh Patience, Jesus... right come on, we're leaving!" It was Raven who was in my room, I didn't have much energy but sat up and watched her as she rummaged through my clothes, picking them up and shoving them into a bag I kept under my bed. She then unplugged my laptop and placed it into another bag containing the lead and with it the mouse. Once she had gathered all my stuff she dragged me out of my bed, my body limp as it fell to the floor. I slowly got up, using my friend as a crutch, I hadn't slept or eaten properly for weeks. All of a sudden my world went black and the last thing I felt was my body hitting the floor hard.

I slowly opened my eyes as the sunlight hit my face, blinding me and forcing me to roll over. Surprisingly I felt no pain, 'but how?' I thought, I could have only been out of it for a couple of hours at the most. As I fully regained consciousness I realised that I was in an unfamiliar room, however, the bed I was in was soft and I was warm. I was on a single bed in the middle of the wall, facing a window that had white curtains which were drawn back to let the light in. To the left was a medium sized oak wardrobe that was next to a similar oak desk with nothing on it but an old lamp with a yellow shade. To the right was only one pale door, set in the middle of the wall.

My stomach growled loudly, I took this as a sign to go and explore the new building. I sat up and swung my legs over the bed and touched the carpeted floor with my toes. The ground was soft and inviting but as soon as I tried to stand, my legs almost gave out. My muscles were weak and not used to much movement, however, I could hold myself up so I walked towards the door slowly. I grasped onto the door and twisted the handle. To my delight it opened smoothly without making any sound. I cautiously walked out onto what looked like a landing and headed left towards some classy wooden stairs. Once I was downstairs I could smell some sort of inviting smell, chicken maybe? I walked through an archway and into the living room which was filled with a variation of furniture. In the left corner was a bookshelf that was full of mysterious old-looking books of all colours, next to that was a red sofa with three seats and two well-placed cream cushions. However, there was no television in this house, just an old radio and a record player on a cabinet on the far wall which was placed between two chairs that matched the sofa.

The room was beautiful, it was almost as if happiness was radiating off the walls themselves. I was then hit with a thought as fear ran through my body. ' What if I am dead? What if I am in heaven!' A bit embarrassing? Yes, entirely. We've all done it at some time, right? You know, thought you were dead. Well, it was not my time to go yet however, at that moment Raven walked out of a door to the right of me and gave me a big smile. "So you're finally up, took your time, how are you feeling?" With that she placed her hand on my shoulder and gave me a concerned look.

"Fine." I assured, giving her a weak smile. "How long have I been asleep exactly?" I asked, for I didn't know anything, about anything. Where I was, what day it was, what month it was or ever what year it was. Just kidding, I know what the year is obviously, I had so many questions, but that was my first.

"Not long," Raven stated "Only around a month."
