It had been almost 2 weeks since I had last seen Raven. I was sat on the school roof when she found me, I had been caught skipping lessons a couple days before, so now all the teachers have their eyes on my tree, making sure I don't skive again, therefore I obviously can't sit there until suspicion goes away. I had to sit on the flat part of the roof where the water butts are. I was dozing as the sky was turning grey but was awoken when I heard a voice I was all to familiar with, "I've got nothing, I need another sample!"
"Good morning Raven." I sigh without even opening my eyes. "Your not having another sample, you'll have to learn to work with what you've been given!" I open my eyes and sit up, only to see Raven's disappointed face glaring at me. "Sorry but I'm not risking my life for a science experiment." She rolled her eyes, huffed then took out her book and started to read. I did the same, as there was no going back to sleep now.
The day went quickly and as the afternoon arrived, just as the bell went, we snuck out with the rest of the school to avoid prying eyes. They sky was a light grey and the air was damp, it was obviously going to rain soon. Raven had agreed to walk me home, on the way however, we came across a couple of boys from our school beating up a younger boy, around our age. "Come on then, freak boy! What you gonna do now! Your daddy is not here to protect you now!" Mocked the tallest boy with black hair.
"Yea, come on freak boy, you like dead bodies so much, i'll turn you into one!" Screamed another short, plump boy with a pathetic excuse for a beard and dark brown hair. The victim didn't say anything, just stayed on the floor sobbing and covering his head.
"Come on Raven," I tugged her slightly on the arm but she just ignored me and watched the scene unravel. "There's nothing we can do!" I protested but Raven just glared at me, then back at the boys. The tall black haired one picked the boy up by his hair as he screamed in pain, then slammed him against the alley wall. He then pulled a pocket knife out and held it in the air.
"Ten seconds wimp!" Raven suddenly showed an expression of determination and shoved me off her, throwing me to the floor. She then started running at full speed towards the fight.
"Hey you!" She shouted. 'What is she thinking?' There was no point in trying to stop her for she was much faster than me. All I could do was watch, my body paralyzed in shock, my muscles were trembling, I didn't dare move. Raven got the blonde boy onto the floor with a dropkick and knocked him out by booting his head, then turned the tall boy around to face her, forcing him to drop his prey. He tried to fight back but she was too fast for him, she grabbed his wrist and whacked it against the wall until he dropped his weapon. She then kneed him in the stomach so he fell onto the floor, then she kicked him again, and again, and again. She wouldn't stop.
"Raven, stop!" I had found my courage and stood up, then ran straight towards her, grabbing her by the arms. "Stop, that's enough! Stop Raven, that's enough, he's had enough now!" She momentarily stopped, looked at me, then at the attacking boy with black hair. Raven backed away from him, his face dripping with his own blood.
"Let that be a lesson to you, punk!" She threatened, then turned around to the kid crying and held out her had to him. He wiped away some of the blood that was dribbling down from his nose to his lip, then reached for Raven's hand and pulled himself off the floor. "George, right?" She asked. He just nodded in response and looked down to the floor in shame.
"How do you know-how to fight like that Raven?" I was lost for words Raven looked like a full-blown ninja taking down those guys. She just shrugged, her eyes still fixed on the kid "Do you two know eachother? I haven't seen him before." I asked Raven, her fists still closed from the fight. She loosened her fists and shoulders before answering me.
"His dad is the Detective-Inspector. George often goes along to the crime scenes and tells me all about it, then I'm not always bored. I don't know him well, but he's alright, better than all those other morons at school." He glanced at Raven and smirked, then looked back to the unconscious bullies that ley on the floor of the darkened alley. The sky started to go dark grey and suddenly let out a heavy rain, washing any blood away and out of the alley.
