Naresh's P.O.V

(Continuation to Chapter 2 : Sahib Ka Ghar)

My mind was occupied with Ratna memsahib's thoughts and all of a sudden, a shivering voice called up my name, "Naresh".  Me and my mother turned back and saw Dayaal standing with a tray of teapot and cups. Dayaal was a pale looking, skinny, wrinkled old man. He would often wear kurta and dhoti ( Indian attire). We looked at him curiously and my mother gestured at me to  talk to the weird looking fellow. He was looking at me as if I was some sort of danger to him. He was cold and reclusive and just talked to the point.  I walked up to him and asked :

Naresh : I had called up Sahib, he asked me to come with my mother today, is he at home ?

Dayaal : No, he has gone to mandir (temple) and will be back soon.

He gestured at my mother

Dayaal : Please sit down,

He puts the tray on the center table and we settle on the sofa and were waiting, my mother looked at the tea pot while Dayaal was pouring tea into the cups, she appeared peaceful but I was kind of restless and uneasy and was time and again looking at the expensive wall clock hanging high above the fireplace but it appeared to me as if the clock hands were stuck and not moving, my mother was already taking sips of tea and she gestured at me to lift the cup from the table but then I heard footsteps and looked at the door and saw a shadow entering in the room. The sunlight coming from the windows made it look more sharper and then we noticed that an old man setting his foot in the living room. Dayaal was standing with his head already bowed down as perhaps he knew who was coming. Ashutosh Sahib came in and we stood up from the sofa. Dayaal slightly bowed more and walked up to him,

Dayaal : Sahib, they have come to meet you.

Sahib looked intently at them and displayed a faded grin and asked us to sit and ordered Dayaal to leave. He came to us and in a deep voice he asked my mother:

Sahib : How are you Jasomati ?

Jasomati (Naresh's mother) : I am fine Sahib ? With your kripa (blessings) everything is going fine. Naresh has become a lawyer now, he has cleared all his papers with good results from Dehradoon ( place). My daughter is also fine at her in-laws home, I will always be indebted to you for the financial help you gave our family.

Sahib : Its ok. Naresh's father was an honest man and worked really hard for me. He and his family deserves care and respect. Please sit down.

And we settles hesitantly. Now my mother looks a bit nervous. Sahib looks intensely at me and asks in his usual deep voice.

Sahib : So, Naresh what are your future plans ? What have you decided to do ?

I was completely clueless and blank when he asked me this question even when I knew the answer, ohh.. lord.. Sudha will be so much happy if I don't go to Delhi. But I try to bring back my composure and answer his question.

Naresh : Sahib, I am planning to go to delhi and join lower court, i am taking training under Harshad Mehta, he is a known advocate of lower court. I will join him as an intern before I start practicing, he has agreed to pay me some stipend too.

Sahib : hmm.. good.. you must go.. but you must come back too.

I looked at him cluelessly.

Sahib : I have seen the world Naresh. Good, bad, worst, ugly, you name it and I have seen it, I can see what is coming, what is about to happen. Your destiny is here, but before that you must get prepared to handle everything that is coming your way. Though personally I am not very happy with your decision of leaving Chail as I want a good lawyer to manage my legal work but its okay, you must also see the world and get some experience. I hope to see you again.

Sahib's words kind of made me nervous from within, though I looked calm but it created a stir inside my soul. I don't exactly know what he meant by but it appeared to me like a warning. Finally after a brief conversation, me and my mother decided to go, Sahib came till the mansion's entrance to bid us good bye. He also gave me some money for the journey.
