The Sphinx of Joy
-By Dhruv Sapra
Whistled as the wagon among the clouds flew
O Sunshine! Over the rainbow it drew
Faces yelling joy – warm hearts & the crew
Wishing the skies, birds & the morning dew
That’s how tour – de – Egypt sailed off
Some dozen hours we took off
Unboarded as speakers blew loud
Under the sunny blanket stood a huge crowed
Expedition unveiled the other day
Joy adventure was here to say
Of yore rulers dictated some freeble hands
Those dead men of the land of yellow sand
Like animals worked at master’s will
No Human Rights?!? I stood still
Sailing on foot lead by native guide
Jewels, gold, & corpse in the graves dried
Dacoits, the new masters of the recent past
Some like king Tut’s did last
Revealing truths of the historic past
Pyramids greeted us that noon
Man head lions were to follow soon
Here at the evening the weather Jinx
“Will be back with a new sun Sphinx!”
Gee the Royal horse that night (in my dreams)
For Once stories of Knights didn’t fright
Gee whiz! A new sun to wish us last day
Soon time to wrap our brief stay
Stood at the mighty lion, the Sphinx
Spent a joyous day at bay all jinx
At hotel summing dinner the Chinese Soy
Time Constraint a lovely Voy (age)
Midnight, the native time bid adieu the Sphinx of Joy
Silence broke apart as Our Wagon kissed sky!
