a poem about domestic violence
For more than five years, I dearly loved him so
For more than five years, I couldn't count every blow
Of hits and slaps, yells, punches, hair pulled
For more than five years, that's what I endured
I hid the pain behind a thick mask and a wide smile
Hiding the suffering from my friends, my family, especially from my child
Every tear wiped, every wound stitched tight
Every bruise concealed, but no stitch will keep this secret from being revealed
Everything isn't as it seems at first sight
Since we've all got something to hide
People see that I got a perfect life
But behind the doors, its a perfect lie.
