Mr T has called everyone together in the Rose Room to listen to me and Hannah. Right now we're just watching Hannah perform her song. It's really good. I think it's about trying to...make your way in the world, and pushing yourself to become something. It's sweet, actually. She finishes and swings her guitar over her back, smiling at her audience as we applaud her. Then, Mr T calls me up to the stage. I can feel my palms sweating, but I'm excited. I just can't wait!
I walk slowly onstage towards the microphone stand and see faces staring at me. I see Luke smiling at me, so I turn my gaze to the others. I see Maggie, Rachel and Annabelle looking at me, seemingly uninterested, so I look away. I see the various bands huddled together, Mary and Eva chatting quietly, Jude glancing over at Eva and Isaac looking glum. But I'm sure all that will change when I start my song. Hopefully in a good way.
The music starts and everyone suddenly pays attention. I begin to sing my heart out, pouring emotion into every word, but I'm met with confused looks, instead of the awe I was hoping for. Nevertheless, I carry on singing. By now, everyone is looking at each other, exchanging glances and perplexed expressions. I have no idea what's going on. People are looking from me to Maggie and back, like they're watching a tennis rally. Even Mr T and Parker are looking suspiciously unimpressed.
I'm really worried and scared. I don't know what's happening and why everyone looks so angry at me. I put my feelings in a song, my inner thoughts in a song that I thought was my best yet, that I hoped everyone would like and appreciate but clearly not. I don't understand why everyone's so mad! What did I do?
My voice, with a slight tremble detectable in it, goes quiet as Mr T puts his hand up for silence. All the noise in the room comes to a sudden end, and the air is as tense as a rubber band. Mr T never does that. Ever. I don't even remember the last time he interrupted someone in the middle of their song!
"Leia," Mr T begins, his voice harsh and loud. "I'm going to need you to come down from that stage and tell us all why you're singing someone else's song."
