I sat in my dad's study, gazing at the old books I had pulled off the shelf. Most of them were in a completely different language, which didn't help one bit. My head pounded from reading too much, but there was a little girl missing, I had to do something. I tried to read another page but I felt myself break down, I threw the book at the closed door and screamed.
"Why didn't you tell me?!" None of it made sense and frankly I was mighty pissed off, tears ran down my face as my temperature rose, making my vision blurry. I collapsed to my knees, holding my head in my hands, I couldn't stop shaking. Amongst my personal drama, someone knocked on the door, I stood up and walked down the hall towards the stairs, but who ever it was had already let themselves in. I slowly made my way down the stairs, trying not to make a single noise to alert my presence, but that plan went out the window. The wooden step creaked, heavy footsteps came pounding out of the kitchen as I ran back upstairs and into the study, latching the door behind me.
There wasn't a sound made until there was an attempt to open the study door. I thought they'd move on, but they jiggled the knob even harder. I panicked, I was trapped. I looked at the small window that was behind the desk, it opened to the roof of the lower level, over the veranda. I couldn't see another way out, I had to jiggle it open, the window was stuck from lack of use, my father hated fresh air in his study, always said it blew away the history that was in there.
As I climbed through the window and onto the roof, I heard the door splinter open. I ran across the roof to the front of the house, a deep voice shouted, "Get back here!"
Too late. I lowered myself to the edge, trying to get my feet onto the railing of the veranda. I got it. I jumped off, getting a sharp pain through my legs; I ignored it and ran up the street towards an old friends house. I hoped to God they weren't mad at me as I ran from the second person that had broken into my house.
I ran up to the blue door and banged on it hurriedly. No answer. My chest hurt as my lungs tried to draw air in, sweat covered my forehead. Kyle opened the door, an ear phone cord dangling from his ear.
"Alexa?"
I pushed past him and slammed the door shut, latching it. Kyle looked at me wide eyed, "Where have you been? You haven't answered any of my calls or texts!"
I breathed in and out a couple of heavy breaths, "I know, I'm sorry. I needed to get my head around some things."
"What's that mean? Were you running? Is someone chasing you?"
"No, I went for a leisurely stroll. Of course someone's chasing me! I need your phone."
"Not until you tell me whats going on."
I set my mouth in a line, "You wanna know whats going on? Fine! Yesterday someone broke into my house and tried to kill me, and now a second person broke in and chased me off the roof of my own house!"
He was speechless, his mouth hung open as he tried to process what I had told him, but I was in no mood to give him the time.
"So give me your fucking phone!"
He pulled it out of his pocket and I snatched it from his hand, dialling Shaw's number. This guy must love hearing from me.
"Shaw."
"Detective? It's Alexa Berkley, again. Someone broke into my house, again. I got away, I don't know what they look like but it was definitely a guy."
"Ok, ok. I'll send someone down, where are you?"
"At a friends house, two blocks from mine."
"Someone will be right there."
Sergeant Chase arrived five minutes later, "This is the second time. Whatever beacon you have pointing to you, you better get rid of it."
We both knew what that beacon was. I left with Chase before I had to explain anymore to Kyle, I really did not want him involved. We got back to my house, the cops had been and gone. My front door seemed unharmed but the door to my dad's study was torn off its hinges.
"Thanks, again."
"I suppose its alright. Did you end up finding anything on Blutbodden?"
I shook my head, "There's so many books and half of them are in a different language."
She sighed, "I guess we better hope that Shaw finds him before he has little red for dinner."
I shivered, she didn't know how to put things nicely, then again, how can you say that a wolf like creature is gonna eat a little girl for dinner?
After she left, I dead bolted the front door, locked the back door and the windows. I looked up an alarm system company and gave them call to install one in for me sometime this week, if this happens again, I'll be ready.
I went back to the study and stared at the pile of books I had already looked through, how was I suppose to find any information?
First things first, I had to reorganise this place my father called a study. I pulled all of the books off the shelf, looking at covers, one of them was old leather, the spine completely worn out. I opened it to see my dad's hand writing, my heart beat faster against my rib cage as his familiar handwriting was scrawled along the page. I almost closed it, it was too much to see his writing, until I saw two familiar words, 'reaper' and 'blutbad'.
"Upon following a blutbad who was abducting women with red hair, I encountered a Reaper. He was sent to kill me, I am still unsure as to why. I had no choice but to behead him with his scythe as he was relentless in following his orders, he kept referring to his employers as 'The Royal Family'. I have found no information regarding this in any of my ancestor's logs. I assume that all Reapers are as relentless as the one I had encountered and if this 'Royal Family' truly wants me dead, I have no choice but to leave my current residence and take my family else where. I know I ca not escape the life of a Grimm, but perhaps I can delay my daughter's fate."
I felt a tear escape my eye, my dad wanted to keep me from this for as long as he could. I turned a couple of pages back and found an entry about Blutbadden.
"The wesen that was abducting women with red hair was a Blutbadden. It's a wolf like creature with red eyes that has an uncontrollable attraction to the colour red, they eat meat and according to my mother they are incredibly vicious when in a pack. A herb called wolfsbane hides our scent and keeps us hidden from the butbad's incredible sense of smell, however they are inhumanly strong and almost impossible to get near without being torn to shreds."
I sighed, "Great, there's no easy way for our family, is there?"
