Yes, Deveroux's gone. But when I wopke up, I ran downstairs towards the place he took me last night, expected him to stand there and to tell me he called off the wedding. I ran as fast as I can in my bunny slippers, pink pajamas and uncombed hair. I arrived on the exact place, panting hard as I try to catch my breath. But he was not there. He was gone.

I went back home to see my mom on the front porch, spreading her arms out to embrace me. I fell on her grasp and cried.

" Why is this so unfair? Why does he have to leave?" I cried.

" I know, darling. I know." she replied, hugging me.

" But how could you possibly know?" I said. " You don't even know how I feel."

" His father loved me, too." she said. I stared at her, my tears stopped running.

" What?"

" His father, Florian, loved me too. We would sneak around so as not to get caught. I loved him too, Yvanne. But it was the same situation, he has to marry another girl." she explained, tears dripping from her emerald eyes. " I loved him, Yvanne. But he left . That's why I know how you feel. I did not know that he was also betrothed. I am sorry I did  not tell you."

My mother was the strongest woman I know, but now, looking at her pain-filled face, my strength faded away, too. We were both damsels-in-distress. Left alone by our knights-in-shining-armors. Tragic.

" Mom, I loved him too late." I said, as the last tear fell.
